What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Oh hell...totally missed the "Austinguy" lol. Yea I don't know if it'd be good enough to pay shipping. I have it (should say, them...inner and outer) on local sites for $75. And it's nothing I would trust to bang around off-roading anyway...factory silver looking skid plate.

Does Toyota not use extended life coolant?

 

No worries man. I was just throwing it out there. Kinda figured it was a long shot. Just keep me in mind if you ever get this way.

I dont know. I'm just going off the maintenance s schedule for my truck per the Hayes manual. My local dealership seems to go by the same thing. My maintenance manual that came with my rig has less, but recommends more (diff, tcase, etc) if you offroad. Per my hayes coolant change is a yes and per my Toyota maintenance guide coolant change is a no.

I drive dirt roads and wheel a bit so I am going all out and following the Hayes guidelines.

Well it certainly never hurts that is for sure. Mine gets off road some and pulls our little camper so I may look into it myself. Drain the block and everything and refill it

If you tow and go offroad both my maintenance guide and hayes manual agree that you should do both diffs and transfer case fluid changes. Done with that already, real easy.

 

I did just about all that at 60k including Pcv valve also just didn’t do the coolant. Idk about the platinum or iridium plugs from what I found they do not work well in these engines I just use OEM Denzo’s or whatever it is $5 each from the dealer and work like a champ

 

Oh at 60k I did all fluids even the 6mt fluid, plugs, pcv, air filter, cabin air, maf, throttle body, and greased everything

 

Iridiums are fine . I’ve been running mine 20k + now. You just have to gap them correctly following the manufacturers specs. What’s POV valve?

My man! I'm halfway done. I just got my plugs from the dealer too. The one thing I am still trying to figure out is how to to use jump wires on my OBD sensor (pins 4 and 13) to trick my truck into AT TEMP check mode. I'm leaving the transmission fluid change for last.

 

PCV valve ??

 

No idea I have a manual. Get your PCV valve from the dealer also I believe it’s also around $5. I put just a very light film of anti siege on it and the plugs. I have seen on here not to but I checked with the dealer and they said it’s fine and helps with the steel getting threaded into the aluminum

 

I got the anti-seizure for my plugs. Tomorrow morning is plugs and throttle body/MAF cleaning.



WHAT IS A PCV VALVE???

 

Positive Crank case ventilation. It releases air from the crank case and routes it back to the intake. The air will have oil vapor in it which is burned through combustion. If it gets plugged it doesn’t allow the engine to vent. It is in this system where you would place a oil catch can to remove said oil from the air

 

i explained it in the other post. It is behind the rear plug on the drivers side and you simply remove the hose, remove the old valve, install new one, and reinstall the hose
