Gas pedal cutting question.

I got my recall on the '09 Tacoma. I didn't hear anything about my '07 4Runner.
What the hell is the difference between the two that requires cutting the Tacoma's gas pedal but not the 4Runner's?

They appear almost identical to me.
Is the 4Runner going to be done later or ?

 

Apparently the 4Runner is not involved in any recall. It all has to do with floor mats. I agree they look identical. Who knows why it applied to the Taco and not the 4Runner.

Probably has as much to do with the shape of the floor as it does with the actual pedal itself. I think they would rather shorten the pedal than beat the shit out of your floor with a big hammer.

 

I had this done to my '09 Tacoma a week and and didnt notice any difference (footwise) after it was complete. There is also a new TSB for the computers in our trucks... so just a heads up that they may ask you about this one as well should you take your truck in for the procedure.

 

Just had this done to mine Monday.... I agree that there is no noticeable difference when driving (the feel of the pedal) but it looks like crap!

My dealership actually did a great job on the pedal. It's perfectly even and symmetrical, and they dressed the edges nicely; if you didn't know what you were looking for, I doubt that you'd notice it had been cut down.

 

I think mine was trimmed with a rusty pair of shears they found in the local landfill....

 

It's all 100% BS political correctness.

I wish my pedal was not circumcised before I bought my Tacoma.

 

just had mine done...I can't feel a difference...so I dont really care either way. It is noticably cut...but I think after I use it, it'll 'scuff' up and you wont be able to tell? Im really not that worried by it.

 

If it does start to bother you, you can actually tell the dealership that you do not like the quality of work they did on it and they will have to install a new pedal with the cut already done from the manufacturer... Just in case.

 

if toyota installed a floor mount pedal like mine we'd never have this problem-may even save lives. There's good reason for this type pedal IMO.ask Mercedes, Acura, Porsche, BMW etc.

 

I didn't even notice it. I forgot about the recall and wasn't even aware that they did it until I had it in yesterday for my 15k service and read my bill afterward and saw they performed the safety recall including pedal modification and some ecu override or something.

 

Had this same issue with "Eleanor" my '09 Prius. They were calling for the same 3/4 inch saw off of my pedal. Prius Chat had posted pics of the "modification" for all to see....looked Mickey Mouse to me. A Prius certified tech on the chat mentioned the new pedal from Japan for the Priuses. I called Toyota Customer Satisfaction and worked my way up the food chain being "pleasantly persistent." I got a call from my dealership and voila' the pedal was there and installed. I just couldn't justify a 3/4 inch saw off Mickey Mouse job in a $30,000 car.

I also have an "09 Tacoma that is in this recall. Hubby doesn't want to do the replacement pedal on his truck. Truck runs just fine and he's never had any problems with the mats.
