After reading a lot about the vibrations most of the Tacomas have, I was curious to know if anyone has tried to put some rubber between where the carrier bearing mounts to the frame. Just thought that might deaden some of the vibes??? I recently bought a 2012 4x4 that's all stock suspension and it has the vibration.

I did this after I lifted a couple inches because the vibrations got immensely worse. Other than that there will always be a tiny amount of vibration.

One piece shaft, not sure a carrier drop will do much if your not lifted, might make things worse

If you're lifted you probably need to look into axle shims for the rear, they're supposed to get rid of rear end driveline vibes.

If you're vibes originate from the front, could be anything from tire wear/alignment to bad motor mounts

Not interested in doing a lift. I was just trying to come up with some idea on how to help or minimize the vibration that these trucks have. I guess you just have to live with it.

I've been having some type of drive line vibes for a few months now, and it's driving me insane!:frusty::frusty::frusty::frusty:

I'm on my 4th set of new tires within the last few months.. Been thinking it was a tire balance issue, which I can't totally rule out at least with some of it... Wondering if maybe some of the tire issues has caused some other type issue, like a drive shaft problem or something, although that's hard to imagine how it would migrate to the drive shaft, but I'm digging for answers now...
It's like out of nowhere this starts.. Never been in a wreck or had anything to "cause it"..

Pretty much at a loss on what to do at this point, Toyota Mech is too.

    Suggestions??

I feel like running it into an oak tree and calling it a day.

Are you feeling a "rumble strip" vibration that will change or go away when you engage four wheel drive? If so that points to the front axel needle bearing, especially if you have any kind of lift. In my case ,that symptom appeared the minute I raised the truck and disappeared the instant I lowered it back to stock.

You may be feeling some kind of steering wheel "shimmy" from loose steering components or a bent or damaged rim.

The other big culprit, dry or worn loose Drive shaft U-joints. I would guess the Toyota mechanic would have checked that though. The front drive shaft U-joints hardly get used or lubed in many cases and rusts. Then you put it in four wheel drive and the vibes start. The rears may just be worn out due to mileage.

What it might be depends on what has been done or added to the truck. A more complete description of mods and symptoms would lead to a better answer. Four sets of tires would seem to rule out the tires unless they are all the same cheap brand and/or hugely oversized.

It's like the feeling of an unbalanced tire and or a shuttering feel. All while NOT in 4x4, just normal driving. No lift just 265/70/17, KO2s (now), never cheap tires. So essentially no mods other than wheels, SCS. Never been in wreck to damage anything.

A couple of times when I've taken it in to have them check balance, and a tire would be out too much and they would replace it with a new one..

So some of it at least seems to be OK at first leaving from balanced then something happens and they go out. But I'm still feeling a little something before then.

Would it be possible that you are loosing some of the weights they apply? Maybe you can take pictures for a record before you leave the tire place. As mentioned ,I hope those wheels are compatible with the Toyota hub and also verify that the correct lug nuts are being used. It seems from what you say that something is changing over a short time. On a long shot, there has been no build up of mud, snow, or ice on the inside of the rims when the problem appears? Are the wheels modular or one piece?
