This is my first Tacoma and first Toyota ever. After 2.5 weeks, this is what I like and dislike:

    Like:
    1. The feeling of solidity. A quiet and refined cabin. Good quality of materials and assembly
    2. Handsome good looks, inside and out
    3. Excellent value for money. I paid $20,000 less for this Tacoma than I would have for a comparably equipped Jeep Wrangler
    4. Toyota has done an amazing job keeping what is essentially an old truck pretty up-to-date
    5. The clarity of the premium JBL sound
    6. Tacoma accessories are a LOT more affordable than Jeep accessories
    7. The assurance of Toyota quality and Tacoma’s strong resale value
    8. The customer service of the only Toyota dealer in town is much better than that of the only Jeep dealer in town
    Dislike:
    1. My right leg absolutely hates sitting in that seat for longer than 45 minutes
    2. A cramped cabin. I knew the interior was tight, but I am having to push the driver seat further back than I normally do in order to find a comfortable position, completely eating up whatever scarce room is in the back
    3. A slight driveline shudder when braking and accelerating has me a little worried
    4. The suspension gets unsettled easily on bumpy roads. Jeep engineers seem to dial off-road suspensions much better
    5. Inability to recalibrate the speedometer for larger tires
    6. I still have to get anything close to the advertised MPG numbers
Overall, I’d give this truck a 7.5 out of 10.

Ah, that's more specific, thanks. In that case I don't have much to offer.

Absolutely is. Hope you're enjoying the truck overall though and congratulations on the buy.

2019 4Runner does not have TSS. The 2020 T4R which has not been for sale yet will have TSS.

Subbed because my 2019 TRDOR DCSB MT comes in less than a month.

+ I just love watching people respond to a thread that they don’t understand.

Yeah I read it wrong. It has SST, not TSS. That's my bad.

I’ve owned a 2016 Taco prior to my 2019 and noticed a few tweeks.

2017 offered powered rear sliding window and tailgate key matching keyfob that 2016 did not
2018 has TSS standard, relocated rear window switch, and pass floor mat locks.
2019 missing left side bed cubby, relocated Bluetooth mic, GoPro mount removed, and two 2.1A USB chargers in armrest.
I’m sure there’s more but those are the few items I’ve noticed myself.

I had a 2016 SR5 DCSB for 2 years. Traded it for a 4runner (or the wife) and just picked up a 2019 SR5 DCLB after not having a truck for about a year.

Drivewise and comfort wise they are exactly the same. I like the power rear window on the newer model. TSS is ok, but not something I must have. I do like the LB better, it is much more practical, but that is preference.

Jeeez......that’s a tough call! Did you go for the Runner or the Wife?. I’d probably trade for the Runner. Marriage is over-rated.

I just traded in my 2017 off-road automatic for a 2019 off-road manual with all packages/leather this past Monday. Here’s my take on the two trucks:

My 2017 was purchased as a certified used truck, a dealer’s loaner vehicle so may not have been treated as nice as a private owner. Sounded like the shop manager made it his personal truck while getting his gen 2 frame replaced.

Had all of the issues you see the TSBs for - whistle from front lower arms, whistle from door seals, terrible shifting (had two flashes done, hardly made a difference), howling rear diff (had TSB done and it became louder), shudder when braking, uncomfortable front seats, dash rattles, etc.

Had failures with the passenger side roof weatherstripping coming off, rear passenger seatbelt stop retracting, other missing weatherstripping pieces that had to be replaced.

Ended up driving it exclusively in S5 with the occasional ECT to not hate it. Was contemplating selling it for just about anything else, but wife convinced me to try the 2019s.

Having tested a number of different Tacomas in sport and off-road trims, I found the manual off-road was the best combo. The manual just drives different when you control the shifting, and is a smooth, enjoyable drive. Everything I hated with the auto went away.

Build quality I feel has greatly improved in the 2.5 years from my 17. Autos I test drove still had the rear diff howl, manuals did not.

The seats are slightly different between the new sports and off-roads. The sport seat bottom is flat with a weird bolster on the front of the seat. I could feel this mid-thigh and I’m sure driving any length of time my legs would go numb. The seat bottom on the off-road has more padding and a better contour, it fits my 5’9” frame like a glove.

Going manual you do loose out on the push button start, keyless entry, crawl control, and terrain select.

Overall I’m really happy with my 2019, it’s really solid, no noises, interior/engine is quiet (wife even asked if it had start/stop tech when pulling up to stoplights), no shudder. Being a manual I’m looking forward to a solid drivetrain I can maintain and enjoy for years to come.
