Any of you drive a TRD 3rd gen with predator style steps (looked stock otherwise)? Passed one on I-30 in LR this afternoon on my way down to Camden. It was black or MGM.

I'm down for an off-roading trip. I wasn't able to get out in VA since I've done all the suspension work to my truck. However, I need limit straps for the rear, lighter weight springs for the coilovers, and my front limit strap hangers need redone before I can go crazy off-road, but the suspension will be basically done at that point.

The only other thing that I want to do is build (have built) a brace for the shock towers that ties into the front bed bolts and doubles as a tie down for my spare. A brace that ties the rear shackle hangers together to the crossmember where the spare used to hang would be nice to have as well. I lack space and fab tools (welder/bender/etc) right now though.

Yeah. It's built for running fast. I'm a prerunner, so I can do a good bit but not too much crazy rock crawling. Slick, steep hills were my kryptonite in the past.

Doubt I'll have the leave this year for that. I remember seeing a post or thread about the trip, and it sounds like a hell of an adventure. If I went out to CO, I'd have to detour down through NM and TX to visit friends out there.

    Yeah.
Man, I'd like to take 2 weeks and just roam around. No plan really, just play it day by day. Heck, maybe a month. I'd swing down through TX, over through NM and AZ, up through NV, UT, ID, MT, down through WY and CO. I guess that is kind of a plan.

I used to work for AMD, and they gave you a 3 month paid sabbatical every 7 years. I think that is an awesome idea and it should become law.

    Yeah.
Figured out my Gaia issue, I think. On Android, you have to enable Developer mode by clicking on the Build number 7 times, then going into Developer Options and telling it what app to use for mock GPS info. Then you have to open that app and enable mock GPS. That allows the external GPS to provide real GPS coordinates to the tablet. Counter intuitive, but seems to work. I was wondering why I could see coordinates in the helper app but Gaia couldn't.

@TerraNerva are you running a standard 5 foot Firestik? How is it on that spring on the highway? You guys seemed to have better range than I did. I have a 5 footer, need to tune it.

Yes sir, it is a standard 5', not the firefly. I tried 3', 4' lighter weight firefly, but you remember the transmission probs I was having with those. The shorter one was 300 watts and this 5' is 1000 watts. Both were 5/8 wave. Spring works great, it does wag a bit on the interstate, more than I would like actually. I want to mod something up to attach it to my RTT to keep it more vertical in transit and less like a very happy dog. The spring was appreciated on those low hanging tight trails we went down though.

GAIA can be a pain...I tried it on my android work phone and unless device had a solid GPS chip it never really worked well, but stand alone on the phone worked ok, but got hot easily. Seems they've done a better job on apple devices. Rumor has it their developers are working on a windows app.

Edit: Surprisingly enough, adding the spring allowed me to get the SWS very close to perfect across all channels. The lil bit of extra length...size matters.

Maybe our last hurrah before it gets too buggy and humid, but we talked about doing a run Memorial Day weekend, maybe try to squeeze in two nights. If the rain will slack off, maybe we can run part of the High Water Mark Trail, running N to S. Still want to do that connecting spur on North fork Illinois, but lots more to do over West of the Piney too. Tossing it out there....

    Yeah.
Yeah, Gaia itself wasn't really the problem, it was more about dealing with a tablet device that doesn't even have a GPS chip and poor documentation from the external GPS folks. They do indicate that you'll need a helper app, but don't really mention how to get the data from the helper app over to whatever mapping app you are trying to use. BTW, there is updated firmware for that Dual -- mine came with v3.5 or something, updated it to 4.0 when I got it and just now loaded 4.2. Not sure if it makes any difference, I just like having the latest version.

The reviews I read on the 5' and HD spring did seem to indicate that it wags quite a bit, RightChannel recommends a super HD spring with that antenna. That's kind of why I haven't installed the 5' yet.

I got my replacement tent cover, so I will likely mess around with that and the antenna this weekend, and figure out my jerry can mounting.

    Yeah.
From a PC. Go to their site and download the file, you'll need the 7-zip program to unzip the file. The Manual link right below the firmware file contains the instructions. There's a driver in the package you need to install first that does USB to Serial. Basically then you just turn on the Dual, plug it into your PC, turn it back off and run their update program.

    Yeah.
Yeah, their app is what I use as the "helper" app and provides great detail on the satellites. Neat little unit and seems very accurate even with altitude.
