We are about the same 7 hours. We come across 64 and take 81 down to Bristol then 26 down through the mountains to Asheville

Sounds like a nice drive. I used to take rte. 58 to I-85 to I-40, but found its just a little further to take 17 all the way down to Williamston, NC where it turns into rte. 64 which eventually runs into I-40. That whole stretch is slated to be "Future I-87". It's pretty much an interstate already but with very little traffic.

Oh I can’t stand 81. It is loaded with trucks and such a long strait shot you never feel like you are going to get where you are going

Haha! That's what I love about rte. 64 in NC. There have been times in the middle of the day when I could not see a single vehicle in front of behind me. Shhhh, don't tell anyone!

I-77 comes down to I-40. That might be a good alternate route.

I know you're not on a sight-seeing trip, but if you're down near Hendersonville, look up Looking Glass Falls. it's a relatively short drive and is a huge waterfall you can literally see from the road and a very short walk from where you can park.

I am pretty sure we have been there in the past we have been coming here since 1987. We used to do the 40 and 77 route for a long time but figured this was just a little quicker. It’s really just about all the same time wise. 26 to 81, 40 to 77, or going over and hitting 85 around Charlotte to Greensboro and getting on 29 there is about a 15 minute difference between all 3

Where you located? Im leaving Boone tomorrow and heading down to Georgia. I think I saw a few posts back that you are near Asheville.

On another note, and the reason I checked out this thread. Saw someone post about Richland Rd being closed. I've been wanting to do that for years but only visited the area infrequently.... to the point that I had pretty much given up ever running it....

My wife surprised me today by suggesting that we leave her family to go run the trail. A few of the homeowners were standing by the gate and confirmed the no access. Very nice fellows, but a complete shame that it is no longer accessible.

How long has it been shut down?

Based on what I know/have heard it’s been shut down for a few months now.. it’s a shame, but too many people going out there acting like morons ruined it for the rest of us. Are you traveling through Asheville to GA? If so, I’m assuming you’d be running down 23/74? Hurricane creek isn’t too far out of the way from there only about 22-25 miles further West on 40 to hit the trailhead

It’s been shut down for a while.

After I did it and got stopped by a local that bitched us out, I did some thorough research and spoke to both counties - everything beyond the bridge is private land and you should not be there unless you have permission from the land owners.

It’s all in the last few pages of the Richland rd thread that is now closed.

I will keep this in mind for future trips. I'll be leaving late enough tomorrow afternoon that it's going to be late when I get home. Sounds like I need to get there before it shares the same fate as Richland Rd.

I read the end of that thread once we got home. Really wishing I would have run it while I had the chance. The land owners that I spoke to today were all very nice.

Searching for Hurricane Creek brings up a lot of results in Southern NC and Northern GA.

    Is this the one?
