Any of you ever get a weird crunchy sound out of the clutch in your 3rd gen? I notice it when I drive it for the first time and the first time I let the clutch out each day. Or after it has sat for a while.

I might have it, but I also have about 20 other different clunks, noises and rattles in this truck, so just tune radio volume up :D

I doubt it's anything serious. Almost sounds like some air in the line is getting squeezed out but it happens on release so that doesn't really make sense.

well, here is the latest clunk of mine:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/metal-clunk-at-the-front.606218/

then there is clunk when I shift and hit potholes at the same time, that’s how just it is.

then there are few other clunks from suspension and worn sway bar bushings, ball joints and other things.

It’s not noisy loud, but if you know what to listen for, you can hear it, but I usually have my music tuned at 60% volume and don’t care lol. It drives straight, shifts fine and gets me where I point this truck, all I care :burnrubber:

Mine makes plenty of noises but that’s a minor annoyance compared to being stuck with the slushbox

oh man did i have an uphill start today at a red light, i try to avoid this street most of the time, no clue why i went up there today.
not sure how to grade inclines but probably steep as steep
NO PANICs ... even though that workvan behind was riding too close for comfort
got this old 22yr clutch fine-tuned to my wills :D
I need to get a pic of that hill and post for you here

To update, they said they would probably have to order the truck so they wanted to make sure it was 100% what I wanted. I went back in and drove an off road to compare. Long story short I put a deposit down on a SSM off road manual with premium and tech packages! They located 2 in my exact config at another dealer but they said they weren't sure if they could do a dealer swap so they may still have to order it but I'm happy I drove the off road for about 90 mins because it feels way more comfortable than the Sport suspension.

The ultimate challenge is Canton Ave Pittsburgh, PA; steepest road in the continental US, 37% grade:

Thankfully no, just flattens out @ the top. The guy in the middle of the incline portion has a lincoln towncar in the driveway, definitely not Pittsburgh winter compatible!

Kind of reminds me of Center Street in Duquesne, PA, it's a little down the road from Kennywood.

Think you have my neighborhood beat, this is our steepest:

Fun fact: My childhood friend's family lived in that old while house on the corner, (originally the port captain's home in 1873).
Many dangerous sledding adventures occurred going down that short street

That's interesting, I'm probably going to trade in for a 2020 and debating sticking with Sport or getting an OR. I got the Sport because I don't really offroad and so I figured I'd stick with better street performance. But damn the Sport is really stiff! Going over bumps and especially potholes is jarring. I've heard the OR is softer stick since it is tuned for more offroading (obviously) and thus end up softer on the road also. Is that what you found with test driving? Would be nice to save my and my family's backs some.

Was just in San Francisco a couple weeks back and swear there were some hills that looked steeper than that. They were crazy! As you come up to them it was like you were approaching a wall. Glad I was using Lyft and not taking my own car on them! Gotta be hell on transmissions.

I gots a 16 sport..love the corner handling but the rear was quite stiff unless I had a couple hundy pounds of stuff in the rear. Just replaced the rear only with Billie 5100s. Huge improvement. Love the factory sport front end, and with the 5100 rears, all is awesome in the world

Yes I feel the same way about the Sport. It feels like a sports car but I can also feel every bump in the road. The OR is much smoother driving over the same pavement. The bigger bumps are still felt but it's less jarring. Other than some light camping trails or driving up the hill at the farm I don't plan to go off roading but for daily use I feel like the OR suspension is more comfortable.

Yeah the back end is definitely the main issue. The front usually goes over ok, but it slams down on the rear like nobody's business when it goes over. I will miss the looks, but if I go the OR route I might ask them to swap the hoods on the trade-in, if possible since I'll be getting the same color again, and I can make it a Faux Pro!

I forgot that Center St was in the movie Striking Distance, remember driving in the area when they were filming.
