Yeah, he was living and working the Bay Area, the landlord sold his rental and he moved back to Minnesota after his car was totaled. He probably didn't have a ton of money saved, very few possessions and no strings tying him to anywhere in particular. So why not?

It's not all that unusual for 20-something dirt bag climbers, skiers, bikers to be nomads for months or years. Sometimes they are able to figure out a way to do it their whole lives.

I have a feeling that the naysayers are taking "living out of your truck" too literal. You might spend 5 days climbing in Yosemite, drive to couch surf at a friend's place for a day to clean up or four weeks working swinging hammers to make some money then go a week riding or boating in Utah, stay with your cousin for a few days for a wedding, then drive a week across county to spend a couple weeks climbing in North Carolina or spend months backpacking the A.T. or do the Continental Divide Trail. It's like an extended road or camping trip.

Or maybe not, maybe he did go all Rainbow Family and set up for 3 months squatting in a national forest somewhere. I dunno. But I doubt that.

The jump from it being a temporary nomadic life to a permanent one is a PO Box and a job where you can work remotely all the time. Those people usually do go up to a van or larger camper, but not always.

All it takes is one or two really big medical bills to destroy that no-work lifestyle...

How convenient! When I’m piss drunk at a bar, I don’t have to call an Uber. Talk about saving some serious cheddar.
Speaking of cheese, bet the ladies love that setup. Snuggling up, no bathroom to freshen up or take a tinkle, spooning only for the win!!

I’m buying a Softopper and truck beds tomorrow.

I’ll summarize this story for anyone not clinking the link:

-20-something guy is waiting for parents to die to collect inheritance.
-In the meantime he is working a lame video game testing job in SanFran.
-He gets laid off for too much vaping in staff room.
-He goes home to mom and dad and is given his dad’s low-mile 2015 Tacoma to look for work in Minnesota.
-He eventually gets kicked out of his parents home out of love. They can’t face it anymore. He gets to keep the Tacoma to continue job search.
-Facing a meaningless life, entirely through lack of effort on his part to build himself a life, he latches onto the idea he’s a modern-day “Nomad” (in a $30k Truck his dad bought).
-Tries to get followers on Insta and Overland Bound for free sponsored stuff.
-Phones home twice a week for gas money and spending cash.
-Also works at WalGreens, part time, as his parent refuse to pay for beard oil, Carharrt clothing, and hoppy micro-brews.
-He finds a cute rich girl to date who’s “slumming it” for a while as she is also leaching off parents and has no meaning in her life.
-They live in-between the Tacoma and her parents time-share condo in Palm Springs, with most of the year spent in Palm Springs.
    .......to be continued......

Meh, he tries to sound like he's edgy or original but lots of folks have done it before him and lots will still be doing it when he's off the road. It also seems like a ton of them feel the need to have youtube videos about how their setup is somehow different than everyone else's.

$50k a substantial down payment in Denver!? Not in a long time, not on a house.
    Otherwise nice story.

Looks like a medic/FF fucked someone’s shit all to hell with the hydraulic tools. Doesn’t look like it would have taken much effort to get that passenger door open. Course it looks like it was down on its side possibly. If so I would have flapped the roof also. Haha

I follow a couple on IG, Bound for Nowhere, that have been living in their vehicle for 3 years now. They have gone through 3 vehicles, now on their 4th is one. They are designers and also have a YouTube channel and website.

This concept is interesting but I always ask myself, what was their financial situation before and do they really make enough money to support their lifestyle now? How long can this lifestyle last? It’s seems like the people who do this lifestyle rarely talk about the real numbers or break down their source of income. Are company sponsors, family, friends, social media helping with their income? What’s also interesting is they stuff they use or wear, it’s not cheap, all are very expensive items.

I would have just exited the vehicle via the driver's side door.

Good possibility it was laying against something on that side. Dirt in the front wheel and door is pushed to the back. That door isn’t opening on its own.

For everyone whose glass is "half empty".......After college (early 70's), my first job was with Ford Corporate (Pico Rivera CA). On day I woke up and just knew - having no job was better than having a bad job, and quit. Had a few bucks saved, left all my "stuff" to my room mate, packed up the rest and took off in my Dodge van. All this was pre internet, social media, cell phones and the other trappings millennials take for granted today, like some of the things listed earlier. Long story short.......couple of years later, met a girl, used her address and phone, shined up my resume, knew EXACTLY what I wanted to be "when I grew up"........30 years later, retired very comfortably at 57, debt free. Some day we might be buying stock in this kids company!
