Never installed it, don’t need it. It’s taking up too much space in storage

 

Wonder if it would work on the 4Runner...

 

I thought they were were subtle differences between the 4.0L in the 4Runner and Tacoma. Regardless RIP powertrain warranty on a brand new truck. Would not be worth it to me before the warranty was up.

 

And bring a bottle to pee in, or at least a funnel and tube to divert it to the seats in front of you...

 

Dual VVT-i is the only difference I know about between the two

This plus the engine cal. Otherwise everything else is same besides the earlier years using the top mounted oil filter, and later years using the stupid ass cartridge buried up under the car.

 

I was just looking into changing the oil on the T4R. Definitely looks more involved than the Tacoma.

 

If yours is like my wife's 12 T4R it's a pain in the dick . Get the filter removal tool from Toyota. It's like $12, but you'll need it to get the cartridge cover off. You need to remove the front skid and under engine cover which is held on by a bunch of stupid ass pop clips that are a pain in the dick to get off. I've got the tool, but it's a pain to wrestle the stock skid off with those stupid little retainer tabs while on your back . I always just pay the dealer to do it cause it's more trouble than it's worth imo, and it doesn't cost much more than doing it yourself.

 

I have a few free oil changes from the dealer. I think I'll take them up on that.

You could get a cartridge removal socket from Toyota? My dealer told me it was a tech only tool there. Bought a stamped one at AutoZone instead

 

Ya it's a Toyota sst. You can just get it from the parts counter. At least at westborough Toyota they had a whole display of them right at the counter with oil filters.

 

Balise they just have the filters and a standard filter socket behind the counter. And its the same parts guy I have been dealing with for years

 

My F-150 has some things that are great and would theoretically make the job really easy (top mounted oil filter that drains back into the pan, a drain plug that just turns by hand). But, the fact that I need to remove four bolts for a belly pan just to get to the oil pan, and that they made the drain plug enormous so it empties the entire pan in about 5 seconds and makes a huge mess frustrates me.

I still do it, but I kind of dread it every time.

 

I can assist with TW express for anyone interested in the Supercharger. I'm heading down in early June. Wish I could buy it for my truck.
