Easy to remove, inexpensive Tonneau cover?

I like to put my bikes in the back and for that I need the truck bed open. However, I also find myself wanted secure cargo, isolated from the weather, in the truck bed as well.

What is an inexpensive tonneau cover that I could quickly remove to load stuff in the back, but again easily put back on to secure items from weather the rest of the week?

 

Sounds like a soft roll up is what you need. I have one and it works perfect for me. I will get some pics for you if interested.

 

I just got the Tyger soft cover from Amazon. I really like it. No need to take it completely off. Rolls up tight to the back window.

I had a extang solid fold 2.0 on my 2016 Tacoma and while it was a great cover. You lose a 3rd of the space unless you take it off. Plus I wanted to add bed bars to my truck (good option for a bike rack too).

Thing is, I have a third rail on the rear window side with fork mounts for my bikes. (shown below). If I roll/fold those back will it block the third rail?

Going with a tonneau cover that's cheaper up front may actually cost you a lot more in the long run if it doesn't impede would-be thieves. I guess there's still some value in keeping things out of sight though...

 

Well not sure what cheap really is for a cover. I think $500 and below is fair. Also, it can't interfere with the usability of a bike fork mount on a third rail.

 

I bought a Tonno Pro Tri-Fold from Amazon, very quick and easy to put on and take off. First time install was maybe 20 minutes, just to sort things out. Now I can install or remove in just a couple of minutes. No drilling. I’ve only had it for a couple of weeks, so can’t comment on how it will stand up over time.

 

To secure cargo, hard tri folding top is much better, but not inexpensive, and be forewarned, none are completely water tight. I will say, all my work truck tri folds have been nearly water tight thought, less than what appears to be measuring cup (guesstimate here) of water after a long rain, or downpour. Soft tonneau cover hides cargo, but can be compromised easily with a pocket knife, so in my opinion, is far from secure. I know tri folds can be pried open, but I don't leave my guns and range gear in back, but for a bathroom break, or to get lunch.

 

Based on that pic, I dont think you will have an issue with accessing those mounts with a roll-up cover.

I dont have a pic of it rolled up (and its raining right now), but im sure someelse does. Or check the Amazon pics for the Tyger cover. Theres some there.

 

Most foldable/rollaway covers will likely interfere with your bike mounts, since the rolling mechanism or folded panels often live in that area. Have you considered increasing your budget and getting a rigid-top tonneau like a Diamondback? You could transfer your bike mounts directly to the top of the cover and be good to go.

Not necessarily true. I have an Access Vanish. It’s all 3 of those. Yes it’s a roll up and can be cut however people do t usually just cut a cover to see if anything is inside.

 

Maybe this style of roll-up cover? As long as the excess material stacks on TOP of the forward part of your bed and doesn't stick out too far, you should be able to get away with using your bike racks as well.

Yeah, that looks like it'll work if I roll it up tight. I'll take a look at the access vanish too. It looks similar.

I would contend that if a cover can be cut, it is not secure. Although, I agree that a roll-up cover is probably OP's best bet to achieve his stated goals.

 

Doesnt look like it has cross-bars. So it will likely roll tighter, but im guessing water will pool on it. Maybe not an issue, just annobsrvation.

 

That cover would absolutely not work with his mount unless he completely removes it.

His mounts are on the front part of the bed, not the sides. He likely added a rail to the bed.

 

To each his own i guess. A tri-fold soft top seems like a pointless cover to me.

Inconvenience of a hard top trifold without the added security.

Just go with the softtop roll up and not have to worry about having to remove it.

I realize that’s essentially what he asked for, but their are better options for his use.

 

Ok. I had an extang solid fold. Laying down in the dirty bed of the truck to unsecure the clamps is not fun.

And thats not even my arguement. What advantage does a soft top tri-fold offer over soft top roll up? At least with a solid tri-fold you have much more security and can at least leave it up if you need to strap something tight against it in the folded position.
