hey guys, 2genner here, but looking to trade my beloved 2010 BSP AC for a 3rd gen DC sport. Ive lurked in here a bit, and have a few questions for you all, since Im not that familiar with the 3rd gen trucks.

I know there were some issues with the 2016 trucks (trans fluid, leaking third brake light, maybe more?) were there TSB's or recalls on these items? how soon did they come out after the trucks hit the market? is there anything wrong with buying a 2016, vs a 17? and is there anything specifically I should look for while checking out these trucks on the lots?

I intend on putting my lower mileage lift from my 2g into a 3g when I find one, do the 3g need the ecgs bushing like my 2g did, and what lift height do the UCAs need to be swapped?

Im very familiar with the 2gen trucks, as Ive been on the forum a while, but Im treading new waters here, so thank you for your help

Factory Blackout package, Soft roll up bed cover, Cheap seat covers, Front and rear dash cam, AVS in channel vent visors
In 2016 the tow package was not standard, so if you see one with a tow package it would be wise to get the tranny fluid checked. Also, make sure it is a factory tow package and not just a hitch added on.
The 3rd brake light leak was found and corrected on the line by 2017. Look for any signs of any water stains around the back seat area and headliner.
There were also complaints about the shifting issues, which were a problem to some, and not an issue at all to others, however, there was a computer update to change that, not sure how far back the update applies. I have a 2018 and it shifts fine for me, so I never really kept up with that issue. There were some holes in the lower control arms that would create a whistle in certain conditions, a set of plugs became available for that.
Not saying this is a widespread problem, but look around the engine bay really good, there have been a couple reported timing chain cover gasket leaks. Also, if you look at a Blazing Blue Pearl truck, look at the roof, there were a few cases of paint issues with that color.
Remember, not all of these problems applied to all trucks, there are many here with 2016 and 2017 and have no issues at all, so don't let that scare you, just use it as an awareness tool.
I can't help you with the lift/bushing questions, that's not my thing.

Not much to add. I've had an 06, 11' and now 50k on a 17'. It's a great truck with no repairs or issues needed to be addressed. 2" lift with no ecgs bushing for me

Get one for an extended test drive to see if you like it, these are great trucks.

2+ almost always needs ECGS, I feel it in nearly every lifted truck, best to just do it.

At 3+ you really should do upper arms, but I had 2.25 and only had a slight positive camber issue.

Stay away from 16's and you'll be good.

Biggest fear is radio freezing, make sure its ok and the screen doesn't go black while driving.

I wasnt aware that was even a thing. I have no doubts they are great trucks. my dad had a '16 that i drove a couple times. but he had the third brake light leak and it JACKED up the interior of his truck. My questions are primarily related to problem areas and signs of problems known to these trucks.

Were you at the toys for tots meet this winter? If so my truck was the one with the Inflatable Unicorn on it. Haha. Just for reference.

Also, from stock you'll be shooting for +2" from hub to fender. Ends up being equal to the stock "2.5-3" lifts found on second gens

Yes to the bushing thing. I know PLENTY of 3rd gen tacos that had to get it after hearing the front end whine and it fixed it right up. On the bright side, the part itself is 60 bucks and it not that hard of a job. Took me and a friend about an hour to do it. Know a guy with a 19 that had to do it as well. When he pulled out the old one, it was the exact same as on my 2013. So Toyota still hasn’t fixed it from the factory.

2016, 2017 are pre-TSS. That may be an advantage or disadvantage based on your feelings about your truck braking for you/radar cruise control.

    I had an early 16.

    -Squeaking leaf's
-Bad shifts (I did the 1st 2 updates still sucked in mountains)
    -Chirping fuel pump

Can't remember my other problems but I wasn't happy with it, and I worked at a freaking dealer!
