Hello everyone. I have a 2018 Tacoma TRD sport. I was talking to the dealer about the TRD exhaust and they said that if I install the exhaust myself it voids the warranty. Total BS in my opinion but anyway. Also, I want to at some point do a small lift, new tires, TRD air box and swap out my sport grill for the TRD pro grille. All this being said, has anyone just said f it and did whatever they wanted to, not had any regrets? Or have there been regrets? I should mention my truck only has 8k miles. Thank you in advance.

Ask them to write that down on paper for you and have them sign that statement. Watch their tune change

Magnuson Moss act. They have to prove that what you installed caused the failure. What warranty would be voided by you installing a TRD exhaust?

Word of advice. Don’t listen to them

If they're already telling you installing a TRD exhaust yourself voids your warranty I'd start looking for a diff dealer to deal with.

It's a lie. You only don't get warranty on the install itself, the product failing due to defects is still covered. The truck as well.

The only thing they won't cover is if it falls out due to improper install.

I can't wait for my 36k warranty to run out so I can install my new windshield wipers. Don't want to void the warranty.

The warranty is a performance contract between the owner of the vehicle and Toyota...the dealer is not a party to that contract so they have no authority to unilaterally deny a claim. They can only deny a customer concern or customer complaint.

They have to prove that the part you installed caused the failure in order for them not to cover it. In my situation I installed a new lift and then a year later started getting a slight vibration while slowing down. They blamed it on the lift and said they couldn’t proceed any further until I turned it back to stock.

So like I thought, in the end the dealer can always F us over.....I agree with what most people are saying here that the dealer is out of their element by saying an airbox or exhaust would void the warranty but like I thought I figured that they would fight tooth and nail to not pay for it. I feel the only thing on our sides is that we all have Toyotas but in the end if something does happen I bet we all lose....

It really depends on the situation, the customer, and the dealer.

This could also be a misinterpretation of the customer.
