    Adding a spacer to the top of the spring under hat is exactly what the pre-load adjustment does on King or Fox aftermarket. (This pre-load adjuster is exactly what you’ll be cranking down to get the height you desire with aftermarket shocks). The added weight will sag the front, and you can get that back by adding a spacer in the right place. Adding a spacer above the hat is where it gets a little risky as you can bottom the shocks before the bump stop. Now the spring rate or length on king and fox aftermarket might be different to the fox pro, that would be the only thing to warrant a swap. (But you could always change the spring in the pro shocks.)

    Depends on who you mean, but in general I personally would. It’s very apparent than most people don’t understand suspension on the 3rd gen forum, just look at all the “how much lift to fit X tires” posts, and and reply’s of Y inches. Complete crap, lift does not allow bigger tires on this particular suspension setup.

    Only correction that I'd make... if you go aftermarket, use 700 lb springs. 3rd gens are heavier than the 2nd gens, so they ride better on the 700 lbers.

    But overall, very sage advice.

    All good information. I'm going to think on it for a few days and decide of I want to try the 1/2 spacer and super bumps or wait and do a full suspension swap

    Would you recommend super bumps with the bump spacers or just the superbumps? And would 3/4" top plate spacer with super bumps be ok as well?

    If it were me, I'd keep the spacer as small as possible. Adding a winch and slimline bumper would only drop the front about 1/2". You only need a 1/4" spacer to counter act that sag.

    I would only install the super bump, no spacer with that small of a spacer plate.

    as others have said, a small 1/4 or 1/2 top plate is absolutely fine, technically i’d consider it more a “shim” than lift spacer really, because your only making a small change. big spacers will cause you issues. i’m doing some 1/4” ones myself soon.

    The other thing that i don’t think was mentioned- coil spacers (between coil and top hat) with the pro shocks- it takes them out of the operating range they were tuned for. i mean, they work, but changes the bypass tune. (talked with fox about this recently)

    Just read on HS Offroad's website that 1/2 top plates do not require new bump stops as they are not a big enough spacer! Think I'm gonna pull the trigger

    Read some horror stories about top plate spacers, busting shocks. Now Im not sure about the 1/2" top plate..

    small spacers like the .25 and .5 inch thick spacers cause no issues. the ones that cause problems are the thick ones. good rule of thumb- if the spacer has its own studs then you probably don’t want it.
    the thin ones are usually used to correct for leans and minor adjustments

    I guess im trying to figure out what adjustments I need to make to my bump stops, i figure if I'm changing the suspension by 1/2" the bumps will need adjustments?

    Does anybody have a straight answer on 1/2" top plate spacers and bumpstops? Bumpstops need adjustments? Has anyone ever heard of someone busting a shock with just a 1/2"?
