I just used the cheap mr fix on Amazon I’m a detailer and I use it all the time it’s only $10 for a bottle last as long as all the other ones and is pretty simple

 

Rims and tires are just stock ones that come on sport but I plasti dipped the rims

FWIW, the guy who did the black vinyl on my hood recommended I stay away from ceramic coat. Once you apply ceramic coat it becomes nearly impossible to remove.

If you ever want to add vinyl or a decal, the ceramic coat will not let it adhere properly. If you need to have a panel repainted and the body shop is unaware that the vehicle is coated in ceramic the paint in the overlapping areas will peel off.

When someone comes to him with a vehicle coated in ceramic, his quote triples because it is going to take that long just to remove the ceramic coat and prep the surface for the vinyl.

His recommendation is to use a paint sealant that dissolves in alcohol, like Klasse, Crystal-Glo or regular carnauba wax.

 

Ceramic coating is way over rated. I use this and can detail a car with the best detailers anywhere. Why do I say that is because I have done it for 35 years full time, part time and weekends. I've wet sanded, buffed, reconditioned hundreds of cars. But for protection I use this from chemical Guy's on my Tacoma. Also on my suburban with 100k miles and my wife's Lexus. Look at my 4 runner with 230k miles on it. I used good old fashioned Simmonize. The finish on all my vehicles stays in perfect condition and off the shelf products work but you have to take care of them.

 

Beautiful but, you must spend all your free time on maintaining them.

 

When I first got my truck I tried so many different waxes and sealers,
Jet Seal was one of my favorites btw.
My truck does not spend any time in the garage, goes off road regularly and sees the nastiest salt roads in the winter.
If I was lucky the truck would look decent for maybe a month.
Had to wash it every couple days at the hand wash or car wash.

Polished out the truck last summer and used Cquartz. Truck looked immensely better.
Washed it once a month, still had to rinse it at least once a week in the drive in car wash to get the dust off, but soap was rarely ever needed, just quick water blast.

Year later the truck still looks amazing but I wanted it even more polished and shiny. Less visible "wear" on the truck in the time it was coated vs when I used waxes and sealers.

So I'm doing it all again but with 3 coats of Cquartz 3.0 and one coat of Gliss.

It's forced me to become an expert on detailing as it is the most unforgiving paint colours you can put on a vehicle, but looks so amazing when detailed.

Sorry, waxes and sealants do not compare to Ceramics for gloss, longevity and ease of cleaning. Black does no lie and it does not forgive.

 

I have a couple bottles of that, wife has a white VW and I was going to test it on that.

I heard that you have to use a water lightly damp cloth when first wiping it off after flashing, then buff with a dry towel?

 

It seems “ceramic” like “quinoa” goes into everything these days LOL

I am with you: I don’t mind applying a tried-and-true paint glaze twice a year. That’s all it takes.

And I purposely don’t buy black vehicles. Owned one; never again. Let alone a vehicle that I am going to take on a trail.

 

Tell this to my 67 RS 396 big block. Oh by the way it's all orginial and even the paint. Wax with old Simmonize wax.

Finally collected all the parts for an original "chambered" exhaust for it, lol no mufflers just resonators. Oh lord that will be loud when I stomp on the gas. Can't wait to put it on.

Lol what a difference driving these vs the Taco's! These are real machines.... Takes some getting used to again after driving the Taco.

 

Last summer I went off roading on a trail with shrubbery and branches all down it.
I prepared and put wax on the truck before hand.
Figured it MAY help.
You could see new scratches on the other trucks.
None on mine.
I would have sworn my truck would have got some while I was cringing as branches dragged along the side...

I spent $5 at the coin wash cleaning all the mud and wax off easily, just blew it off with the power washer. Other guys spent 3 times as long getting the mud off their trucks. Had to use the brush etc to get cleaned up, not me, wand only.

TBH I washed it again when I got home with Reset to get rid of the last of the wax but truck came out even micro scratch free. I would not have believed it if I had not lived it.

I didn't believe in the hype about Ceramics either.. till I tried it. Now I have 3 coats of ceramic and a top coat....

Would I pay $2k to have someone else put it on? Not unless I bought a Black truck. Biggest part of all that cost is all the polishing you do before the coating.

Will I be putting it on my daily drivers from now on? Yep. Just the ease of cleaning makes it all worth while.
The stuff is not rock-proof or stupid proof, but works better than any wax or sealant.

Who ever told you it’s nearly impossible to take off doesn’t know what they’re talking about. Just saying that to increase his prices. All you need is a microfiber cutting pad and your choice of cutting compound and it’ll come off. Not all ceramic coating are the same so each will differ.

Wax/sealant will always be good that’s a fact, and that’s only if you strictly maintain it or keep it in the garage. Ceramic coat is for those who want less maintainence and want to leave they’re car/truck outside and be stress free. And if you have black paint it better be coated, I don’t care what sealant you have, once bird poop sit on your paint and bakes in the sun it will leave behind a trace which needs to be polished. Ceramic coating you can literally wash off the poop with a bottle of water and glides off.

This is my truck after 2 years with ceramic pro 9h. Stays outside to the elements. This was my first HAND wash since October of 2018 so about 6months, only thing I did was pressure wash with water and use a drying aid and MF towel or a rinseless/watwrless wash maybe once a month or every other.
