    My shit is all stock.
    So, I’m out and about driving the truck and taking logs. Using @JustDSM list of pid’s to scan. As soon as I start recording, everything blanks out. All I can see is vehicle speed. Is that normal?

    You’ll need to re-configure your gauges, graphs and charts to use the new PIDs. Since you’re no longer logging the SAE PID lists you’re stuff is set to display PID’s that are no longer being recorded.

    All the data is still there, so the logs are “good” and useful. Even if the data isn’t displayed graphically.

    The grayed out pid's totally disappear when actually recording.

    Am I missing some sort of authorization for the software or something?

    Poking around in the editor, there seems to be a lot of missing stuff.

    Has anyone used the program with Windows 7? Work ok? I will be given a laptop later this week with it. Otherwise I have to dual boot my Mac air.

    Looks like you might be on a early version of beta or full. Go to “Help” and then “About” and let me know what version you’re running.

    Please open a support ticket. I don't see anything immediately wrong as 3YWG2800 is in our database.

    Please include:
    - VCM Suite Info while connected to the vehicle
    - debug.dat
    - a scanner log file that doesn't work

    Long post ahead! Read bolded text for topics!

    =========================================================

    JustDSM N/A V1 Tune review. (short term)

    This is on a bone Stock N/A'd 2013 TRD OR 4x4, 2in lift, 265/75R16 LT load range C's, Sliders n some gear in the truck. Only performance mod is a 1/2in XTP Intake Manifold Spacer

    So I have been running the JustDSM v1 base optimized tune (without VVTi changes) from monday - sat morning to get a baseline of how the truck feels with these changes.

    First off, shout out to @JustDSM again for all his work with these optimized tunes, the support, feedback and chit chat about it all is amazing. This shit truly does make a difference!! My truck pulls at WOT WAY WAY smoother, no more midrange rpm dip, no fading off in the upper rpms like before. Best of all its NOT just at WOT, part throttle cruising the truck seems more lively, its able to pull hills at a cruise without popping out of 5th locked as quickly and highway speeds seem to be had much easier, the engine doesnt seem to struggle as much to keep 65-70mph, or have as much trouble to move up in speed without downshifting. Not to mention the much better throttle response due to pedal mapping.

    Needless to say this is bitching! Keep in mind, this is all on lovely (read SHITTY!) California E10 87 octane fuel... aint nothing fancy going into my truck, not when down here in socal this shit tier gas is ~$4/gallon!

    I will update after I get some time with the v1a tune (v1 tune + vvti changes).

    =========================================================

    Shift point changes! (ongoing)

    So I decided to play with some shift points this weekend as well. For all intents and purposes I wanted to eliminate the "race to 5th" and gear hunting at lighter loads / low throttle that can happen with our 5spd autos. So I started out by raising shift points at 40% and under pedal position by 200 output rpms (essentially 5mph) for EVERY UPSHIFT. While this definitely worked, it was actually too aggressive for my liking especially at lower speeds (1st to 3rd gear light throttle). Shifts weren't harsh persay but definitely felt more and not to my liking , FYI I like to drive like a grandpa / feel like im driving a grandpa car. So I dialed it back some to 170 output rpms ( ~ 4mph ) on all upshifts, including the same increase for 5th gear tcc apply (TCC figures are 25 a time hence 175) . See below.

    Shifts1.jpg Shifts2.jpg

    This was decent and something that id definitely be OK with if this was my only option / how the truck behaved from the factory... but alas with HPTuner in hand I'm going to play more, cus why the hell not!!! If you wanted a sportier feeling truck (like a 3rd / 1st gen running ECT on), the above screen shots would work well (the first test I did, difference values were 200 everywhere you see a value of 170/175 if you wanted even more aggressive ). You might not think 4mph changes to shift points would do much but it surely does in day to day driving.

    After all of this playing around I have to say, I am back to OEM shift points with JustDSM's v1a tune. Reason being, Throttle. Pedal. Mapping. The change of the pedal mapping has eliminated a decent amount of the race to 5th / hunting due to being further up the shift point rpm / throttle pedal graph than before during standard driving when these "problems" would usually occur. This extra aggressiveness in the mapping plays very well with stock shift points and really does make the auto behave better and I'm quite happy how it all plays together.

    This stated I am going to continue to play with shift points. My goal is to increase driveability, but not decrease smoothness under standard around town non spirited driving to appease my grandpa tendencies. I feel as though I might try to increase the 4-5 shift ( including 5th tcc apply) and maybe the 3-4 shift by 170-200 output rpms and leave everything else as is and see how that plays to get best of all worlds. Then maybe play with line pressures for firmer shifts under higher loads. One thing at a time though.

    Till next time amazing people of the HPTuners thread!

    (Also, do not hesitate to send me a PM / quote me with questions or thoughts about any of this! I love the discussion on this new frontier of tuneability)

    There is a race to 5th. I often leave mine in 4th until I’m really at speed. I’m in a LOT of traffic and 5th lugs it down.

    Very well said @nd4spdbh, I too had my shift changes increase by about 200 and have since switched back to stock shifting due to @JustDSM throttle remapping.

    I almost always drive in 4th. The trans upshifts prematurely then down, then up. Drives me nuts.

    With HPT you can now eliminate the premature shift to 5th now! Awesome times!
