Its that time again. Another "what suspension do I need" question..

Heres the deal - the stock Baja front setup is pretty good for me. Good balance of spring rate to weight imo. I like the current ride height and the level rake. The stock rear leafs on the other hand suck a$$. Between recovery gear that lives in the truck and the new RTT Im probably about 200-225lbs static always-present load, plus maybe an extra 100-150 lbs of gear throughout the truck (but mostly in the rear) when camping. The stock leaf springs absolutely cannot handle that. I cant tell you how many times I hit the bump stops up north this weekend. Very un-fun to drive if we're being honest..

Probably not even going to bother looking at AAL either, I dont think those will cut it in the long run. If I get new leaf packs, Ill probably end up with a few inches of lift in the rear. But Id really like the keep the level rake and stock Baja Bilsteins if possible. So I guess my question is, does someone make rear leaf packs with higher load capacity but not much lift? If not, is there a way to get maybe an extra inch out of the front Baja suspension?

Other option is new suspension all the way around, but thats way more $$ so Id like to hold off on that

Dakar or Icon make the leaf springs you’d probably want....

I have a progressive AAL on mine. Your right in knowing our springs are not the best and with the added weight you have a new beefier pack would be your best bet. When mine finally fail, I’m going with the Icons.

Arent Dakars the ones that everyone complains about squeaking? (you can tell suspension isnt my strong point when it comes to Tacos haha)

I think some people have had problems squeaking. I had a set on a previous Tacoma, mine never squeaked, not to say your wouldn’t though....

Not sure if you already saw this, man:

Option 1 might keep you more level with your static weight in the bed. Option 2 will give you a slight rake but also that extra cushion for the added 100-150lbs. I’d also recommend upgrading to Wheeler’s Super Bumps and get their 2” extended brake lines.

I think Dakar’s were rather stiff if I remember correctly. Those might be an ideal option since you’ve got constant weight to compensate. The Icon RXT’s have something in between each leaf to prevent squeaks.

Yeah those are one of the ones on my radar. Seems like Option 2 would be good, and I would just have to deal with a little bit of rake after the install.

After some time....not too long, they should settle a little. Especially with the added weight you’ll be carrying. Hopefully bringing it back to level.

Thats not too bad. Something about the aspect ratio of the picture seems off though haha

How do you like the ride with the RXT shocks?
