Any other OR owners elect to ADD the air dam?

I suspect I am one of few who has embarked on this project...

In order to maximize mpg, I decided to add the Air Dam to my 2016 OR 4x4. Disclaimer: I off-road infrequently, so clearance not a big issue.

Oddly enough - I really like the look. Maybe it’s just a white/black color combo thing, but really completes the truck IMO.

    Thoughts?

To each their own, but that thing is just begging to be torn off the first time you DO off-road, depending on where you live of course. Have you noticed any difference in your average MPG?

The first mod to my 2016 SR5 and 2019 TRD sport was to remove the air dam. I think the angle of it spoils the esthetics of the truck. I don’t like the way it angles rewards. Good looking truck though.

I think most people who get a truck don’t care about MPG’s because it’s not meant to get good fuel economy. I think the market is very niche for the people who actually care about MPG’s in the Tacoma’s, most of them will keep it stock the entire time and never use it as a truck IMO.

FYI It can be removed fairly early if you plan to off-road (11 10mm screws), prob 10 mins. Will report back on mpg findings but looks promising so far.

I did the same thing and and also like the way it looked. I did however remove it due to TRD Skid Plate installation and noticed a 1mpg loss when I took it off.

I would be surprised if it offers anything, Toyota rates the MPG the same between models with and without it.

I like they way they look and would add one to my TRD OR if I could find one for a reasonable price.

Any Vegas locals got one laying around? PM me.

I was surprised but it was a definite 1 mpg difference in my case.

Toyota quotes a 1mpg difference with the OR model vs the models that come with the air dam.

They do not, you probably saw a difference between a 2 wheel drive and a 4 wheel drive,

The sport and off-road manuals are rated 1mpg different on the 2019s. The chin strap is likely a large part of that, in addition to the street tires & different rear axle

And the manuals are only 4x4 short bed double cabs up here anyway

2WD and 4WD aren't rated differently. The OR and non-OR are rated 18/23 and 19/24 respectively. Maybe that changed for 2019, but that's what it was before...

Guys .... I literally tested it myself ... real world! With my “all stock” TRD OR 4x4 I was averaging 18.9 MPG (same drive to work every day, first month of ownership). I put the air dam on and got 19.9 MPG (same drive and driving style for 6 months) and then recently put the TRD Skid Plate on and now get 18.9 MPG (last month) ... again same drive and driving style. It doesn’t make a lick of difference to me what Toyota says in their advertising. My personal experience tells me it does indeed (no doubt in my mind) make a 1 MPG difference!
