Got handed a Alpine MRV-M500 amp for free, had to help move a washer and dryer. Is there a subwoofer/box combo that will fit behind the driver side for the DCSB that will go well with this amp? I dont know much about this stuff and have been told under powering is just as bad as over powering.

That sounds hugely complicated. Is that like an off the shelf thing or custom built?

Is it possible to put a price tag of around $175 as well?

Gotcha. Thanks for the fast response on this. From what I've been reading, and I could be totally misunderstanding, my music tastes (country and rock) lead me to believe I'm looking for a 8" or 10" subwoofer. I'm not looking to blow the doors off or anything. Guess I should have outlined this in the beginning. Would the kicker 43TC104 be in same wheelhouse?

That amp will blow that thing so fast. And it looks too thick to go behind the seat.
They make a 10” and an 8” of the same speaker I previously mentioned. Those would sound much better, be closer to the power specs of the amp, and for sure fit behind the seat (though keep in mind, you need to remove the passenger side cubby for nearly all subwoofers)

Just be sure to properly set the gain on the amp when getting whatever speaker you chose hooked up. I can give more info on that when the time comes

Lol like I mentioned, not too savvy on the bass end of the car audio spectrum. I like your idea, just wasnt wanting to spend more than $175 on this whole endeavor. It was a free amp, and I wouldn't mind a little more thump but this wasn't really on the list. I know I'm asking a lot but would you mind giving me some options for a little less on the money side of things.

Well you’re spending $50 on wiring no matter what, so that leaves you with $125 for a speaker and a box. That’s unfortunately not going to be an easy task to find. Especially that will fit behind the seat. Nothing I know of will handle that.

Well crap. So this amp is something to be proud of huh? I thought it was just a simple amp that was lying around. We can fudge the numbers a bit so the wife doesn't get too upset. I mean I did get it in exchange for my time and labor. I did remove the cubbies a long time ago if that changes anything as far as fitment. So maybe $175 range for speaker and box.

That’s still going to be tough to find.

The amp itself is a good amp for sure, but there’s just money involved in this endeavor no matter what amp you have.

Fitting behind our back seats means a shallow mount sub and a very thin box. Those two features come with a price tag.
And the wiring kit previously spoke on is a non-negotiable.

I might suggest holding off another month or so and saving a few more bucks to go for the 10” or 12” we spoke about. Pack lunch for a week or skip a dinner out one night and it’s paid for!

The Rockford Fosgate R2S-1X12 R2 appears to be the same dimensions as the 12” kicker box. Only runs $132. Just need to make sure to set the gain properly

For what its worth, I've been running an amp rated at 500W RMS with a woofer rated for 120 for going on 6 years now. No problem at all, although you have to make sure your gain is set correctly. Its far better to overpower than under power. Underpowering gets you clipping, clipping toasts coils.

For wiring, that depends on your skillset. I saved a bundle by skipping the overpriced kits and using welding cable wire (bonus points: it blends with the factory wiring). You could also build a speaker box if you've got a jigsaw and some time.

The wiring kit idea sparked interest. I'm going to see what I can find for welding cables. I'm going to look into the Rockford Fosgate later as well. Another thing that I've been told from a few bass heads is I'm not going to truly enjoy the perks of the 12" sub because of my choice in music. Specifically the lack of low and hard hitting bass notes. They compare is to a 12 gauge shotgun vs. a small pistol, saying I should be looking for a smaller snappy subwoofer. Any opinions on that?

This is not true, the 12" subwoofer is a great 'all around' sub. That being said I run a 10" JL 10Tw3-D4 http://www.jlaudio.com/10tw3-d4-car-audio-tw3-subwoofer-drivers-92184 with that same amp in my 2013 TRD OR DCSB. I also run two MTX Thunder 6000 8" and 1 MTX Thunder 6000 10" in my 2019 Camry XSE V6.

Yeah I run a 12” and it can play whatever I want. While big high-wattage 12’s in huge ported boxes cant really play high and tight, a sealed box and a good sub like the shallow Kickers and JL’s can keep it clean for whatever music you want

Awesome, you guys are very knowledgeable and have taught me quite a lot over the past couple days. Lemme throw this question just because I was glancing at some of the builds in here. Would it make more sense to buy a ********* box and then have some freedom over sub choice?

Just curious..this isn't a good option..TS-SWX2502. I only ask because it seems to be very close to the kicker originally posted.

Ah, because it has to be tapered at the top. Forgot about that.
