Did he just say that his propane source was in the cab of the truck? And side mounted in a cylinder not designed for side storage? Does that sound alarm bells for anyone else? Know what happens if propane in a confined space isn't 100% air tight and efficiently burning? Hopefully he has time to smell it before he falls asleep at the wheel, flips, and goes boom.

That would be great if there was any solid truth to those statements.

Millenials are preparing for their retirement better than the Boomers did/are statistically. We may reach a time here soon in the next decade where we reach serious levels of elderly poverty as the Boomers all reach the point where they are on SSD and running out of savings.

All generations bitch about the lack of compitency in succeeding generations. Doesn’t make the woes legitimate.

Average amount of time Millenials stay in a job is 2 years. People get bored and want to move up or out. Gone are the days of staying in a boring job for 35 years just to get a pension.
I see a lot of the moves millenials make as being a positive movement for our culture. We don’t sit around and complain about the world we do something to change it or change our behaviors.

Despite the proclaimed student loan crisis the millenial generation is better financially prepared than Gen Xers and Boomers.

I’m a millenial. I have 3 college degrees, zero student loans, have never been out of a job since I was 15 and am on track to have a paid off home by the time I’m 30.
Yes... we are a totally irresponsible, ignorant, and helpless generation. Lord help us all. *eye roll*

And my story is a similar story among a lot of people my age. I’m not a one-off. Our generation knows how to work our ass off.

And apparently it knows how to live in a Tacoma for a few years to save money to live in a HCOL Area. Good for that guy. I mean I’ve made sacrifices... but not ones like that.

I lived out of a Volkswagen Van for about a year in the 80s. Ran all up and down the CA coast, surfed, chased the Greatful Dead and had a few very colorful moments. Glad I have a home now.

Yeah, but reading the source material for that article yields some relevant points. First that the age group represented by the 66% number is 21-32... I suspect many of those on the younger end of that spectrum are still in school / paying off debt / hopefully building up that rainy day fund (which I think most would agree should be a priority when you're just starting out). I have no data to back this up, but I'd guess a similar number of genX, boomers, etc were in a similar place when they were 21.

    Also:

"Figure 1 shows that in 2014 Millennials (66.2%) had similar rates of working for an employer that offered employees a retirement plan as GenX (68.8%) and Boomers (67.6%). But, as displayed in Figure 2, a challenge to this generation is the fact that only a little over half of Millennials (55%) are eligible to participate in an employer-sponsored retirement plan, compared to over three-fourths of GenX (77%) and Boomers (80%)."

"Figure 3 shows that Millennials have high (94.2%) take-up rates when they are both offered and eligible to participate in a retirement plan sponsored by their employer. These high rates (94.2%) are nearly equal to the rates of Boomers (94.4%) and GenX (95.4%). As a result, a little over one-third of Millennials (34.3%) participate in an employer-sponsored retirement plan, compared (in Figure 4) with half of GenX (50.5%) and Boomers (50.9%). The rate at which eligible employees take-up an employer-sponsored retirement plan is about 95 percent for all generations."

So yeah, less retirement plan options for people entering the workforce results in less young people taking advantage of those options.

Take all this with a grain of salt though. I'm a (32yr) millennial!

That's because generally speaking, if a millennial works at a place for 8 months and isn't into some sort of management/supervisory role by that time......they quit and move on to "something better". Unfortunately, many times it takes a year to be eligible for any retirement plan. Some don't do that, I know...but we're talking overall by generation here.

"I've been here almost a year and I haven't been promoted yet. They gave it to Bob. I mean I know he's worked here forever (they have no idea how long exactly, nor do they care to learn), but he didn't even go to college....I mean.........obviously I'm more qualified for that job than HE is."

Well, here's some news for any millennials reading this, you're not more qualified because you C-'d your way through college, ok? You're just not. Bob has been doing the job for 28 years. Not reading about it, not hearing about it, not discussing it, not doing a thesis on it, not theory....he's been DOING it in real life.

Which generation thought participation trophies were a good idea, then went out and bought them?

The amount of hate for this guy is incredible!

I didn't see any arrogance in his article anywhere. He's a skier, relax...

I realize this is not the same, but since most comments are about millennials, here's one that's not. I "live" in my truck for three weeks a year on a CO hiking vacation - I sometimes get a room one nite, but that's about it. In CO there is plenty of public land to park (sleep) on and showers aren't difficult to find as there are community pools, RV parks, etc, in just about every town. The biggest PITA for me is just organizational- living out of duffel bags gets old after a while, even when organized. Second PITA is if you get wet hiking and the next day it rains again so you can't dry your gear- wet clothes are no fun to have around taking up space. When vacation is over it sucks to go back to work, but it's also nice to sleep in a bed at home and have a toilet and running water :) In retrospect I wish I got a "tall" cap where I could have a raised platform for storage and not lose headroom. My setup is very Spartan compared to what's in the dedicated thread here.

That would be the Gen-Xers. The generation we swore was the lost generation. Until they spawned...Gen Xers 2.0: Millennials of Chucky!

Now get back to work and maximize my 7.1% of your paycheck. 'Preciate it. 'Cuz my 50+ years of work earned it...

My comments are maybe to get a thought process started "maybe there's a better way to approach this?" I guess maybe it gets old complaining about it all the time. I especially love the "millennial anti-theft" meme's and a pic of a manual transmission. To be honest, besides my Corvette, I will never get another standard transmission again in my life.

My company has a class called "Working in a multi-generational workforce" and I have to say, one of the best classes I have ever stayed awake in.

My daughter walked right into a wall a while back with her iPad and I couldn't do anything but laugh my ass off, and then have a discussion with her about what she was doing. I asked her if she would sprint into our back yard blind folded? She said "no Dad, I'm not stupid".....and then a light bulb went off. She hasn't done it since.

It was the same for me. My baby boomer parents would always bash on the Gen X generation. They don't anymore. I bypassed them a couple years out of High School.
