Stant makes a locking gas cap. Some have had issues with the aftermarket caps. Mine has been fine for many years. There is another manufacturer that makes them but not sure who.

Some people have posted that there's a roll over valve in the filler neck which prevents a siphon hose from going in. I haven't tried it to confirm. Some people have put an electric latch in the gas door. My thought about that is that the cost to repair the damage done when someone pries the gas door open exceeds the value of the gas. A locking gas cap will also slow someone down that has intentions of putting something into your tank.

Some people have posted that really determined thieves will drill a hole in the gas tank to steal the gas.

'tis true. Locking gas cap certainly won't do anything to discourage it, if not just plain encouraging it. I haven't heard of it happening in years, bit then gas has been cheap and I haven't lived in Tweakerville in like 8 years either... I know GMT800 trucks have a ball in the filler neck that won't allow a siphon hose in.

I've never heard good things about the quality of locking gas caps, and have had to break a few off either due to lost keys (not the cap's fault) or the lock malfunctioning.

I don't see any benefit to them. I've replaced many due to check engine light/evap leaks, they are cheap and don't seal very well over time. They also can be removed with a flathead screwdriver if you really want it off.
It's more common and faster/easier for thieves to drill a hole in the bottom of the fuel tank than siphon it. Seeing a locking gas cap may give them all the more reason to do so.

True. Pretty cheap metal inside. You can just press hard in a downward motion and unscrew counterclockwise with a lot of them, and boom it's off. I put my stock one back in and it seals a lot better.

The main forms of auto theft or theft from autos these days are:
-checking for unlocked cars and taking contents
    -steeling wheels/tires
    -breaking into the car
    -stealing the whole damn car

I haven't heard of gas siphoning or tank drilling at all around here.

I've been using a Stant for three years and no issues. I'm not as concerned with fuel siphoning and wanted it more so it would dissuade tampering with the fuel if I leave it parked at a trailhead.
