    Hey guys,

I'm seeing lots of posts about Tacomas developing signs of rust fairly quickly.

Given the advise I have received from prior Tacoma owners, and Toyota’s own history with rusted frames, what’s the best way to go about this? Is there anything my Toyota dealership offers? Take it elsewhere...? Fluid film...? I don’t think fluid film is legal here...but I could be wrong.

Use an oil based product like NHOil or Krown to the best protection.

Thanks. Is this something I buy and spray it myself? Something I go somewhere to have it professionally applied?

Sorry I lived in Southern California for 20 years and never had to deal with this.

You can apply it yourself or have it professionally applied. Just look up the products and see if there is a dealer/applicator in your area.

Hmmm...they must not be legal here. The closest Krown dealer is across the border in Coquitlam, British Columbia. NHOil doesn’t show any dealers in the PNW.

    Coquitlam is not that far.

Why isn't Fluid Film legal where you live?

Alternatively, Kellsport has been advertising WoolWax as an alternative to Fluid Film that's supposed to work better. I need to read up on it a bit more and see if it's worth making the switch. I've had excellent results with Fluid Film and the Kellsport kit makes application quite easy.

I’ve used Krown, RustCheck and other similar companies/products in the past and they’re great for body cavities and inside panels but most of them wash off exposed frames/parts before the winter is finished. Fluid Film sticks and is the best stuff i’ve used so far. I’m in the Rust Belt and sprayed my Tacoma myself last fall and even though i’ve put on about 10,000miles and been through a couple of deluxe, auto car washes it’s still thick underneath.
If you can’t find a company that will spray it, you could always buy a bunch of cans (or a complete spray kit if you’ve got a compressor), watch a couple of YouTube videos and do it yourself.

BTW. Here in Chicago, spray paint is illegal to sell, but I can drive to the suburbs to get some or buy it online. I imagine the same loopholes apply to Fluid Film if it is illegal where you live

    This is what you want...

    Corrosion Free "Rust Cure"

This is literally the best rust inhibitor on the market IMO... I live in a salted region during the winter and this is the longest lasting most resilient coating you can use...

I use this stuff on my frame only and apply it in a manner that i'm not making a mess..

Cars nowadays you don't have to coat the entire thing... Just the spots that will rust..

Frame.. Sub frames.. Wheel wells and that about it.. Bumper regions maybe.. It really depends..

This stuff is thick so you want to use it lightly.. I touch it up with Krown T-40 lube during the winter..

    ...stuff
Drive out to Calico Ghost town. Exit the freeway but drive south instead of north towards the town. Then drive on the road east that parallels the freeway until it dead ends, turn left on the tank bridge that goes over the freeway and hit all of the puddles on the other side. You’ll get a load of free rust protection. Repeat as needed

No you do, its not bad as the North East since WSDOT doesn't salt the roads during the winter. But it does rain a considerable amount and he and I both live within a few miles of the Puget Sound.

Why should fluid film not be legal? I just read on there website again that it is biodegradable and based on wool waxe, for me this sounds better then all the other chemical based rust protectors out there.

IDK. Sometimes it seems everything is illegal in California...with the exception of cannabis...
