Is that all fiberglass? Looks like it.

The wood on those older trailers like to rot.

 

Yup, primarily fiberglass. Most times if no leaks, the wood stays pretty decent.

Too big, I kinda want to downsize, but wife ain't going for it..lol. and this I can tow with the Tacoma, no way with the other one. This would be more of a just hook up and go type deal.

 

What do you mean, your current one can't possibly weigh that much. If I remember correctly, you have the 5VZ which can do 5,500 pounds.

 

I wouldn't have brakes if I towed the jayco. It's almost 2500lbs dry. Fill water tank and heater, then 2 propane tanks, and full fridge. Its heavy. And trailer doesn't have it's own brakes.

 

It's really damn simple to add brakes, chances are your axle may be equipped for brakes already. My cargo trailer has a Dexter axle that's unbraked, but it has the mounting bracket for it. It's as simple as swapping brake drums with an electronic one and running the wiring for it with a brake controller. Max $300-400.

I can wire your truck for a 7-Pin with like a Tekonsha controller.

 

Take a look behind your trailer wheels, if you see a square plate with four holes on each corner your axle is able to be retrofitted with brakes.

I've been toying converting my cargo trailer into a camper trailer.

 

Theres some slick stealth conversions out there..

 

Take a pic of your axle and behind the wheel, lemme see if I can find brakes for it.

 

I've looked. I have torsion axles on it. Etrailer has a kit for 1k last time I looked.

 

My trailer has rubber torsion axles too the brakes are damn expensive for them.

 

I'm happy I have the classic Dexter axle on leafsprings. Brakes are like $50 for both sides.

similar. Super old school and not that fancy probably needs to rebuild the axle and maybe a new canves. Hasn’t been opened in awhile
