2017 tacoma audio build

I'm finally getting started at my audio build. I've done a lot of planning so far. I'm trying to do this as clean and hidden as possible. I'm having my box built by @Mr Marv . He has been a huge help at learning the facts of car audio and has helped with deciding how to put together this set up. So far I have the following

Kicker comp rt 43cwrt101 (sub)
Kicker 6.5 43csc674 (rear)
Kicker 6x9 43csc693 (front)
Subaru kicker tweeters

The door speakers and tweeters will be swapped out in the future. I tried doing the kicker upgrade everyone raves about but I was very unimpressed. I realized a proper system is the way to go but I decided that I want to use the factory head unit to keep the stock look and functionality.

So far I have built my harness with the metra harnesses and 2 sets of speed wire because I will be using the factory speaker wire being I will only be running about 60 watts to the doors. All of the wiring has been done with solder, heat shrink, and tessa tape. All connections to the amp will be made with wire ferrals.

The sub box will be a single 10" enclosure behind the rear driver seat. The amp will be mounted under the passenger seat and I already flipped the cross bar to give me the clearance I need.

Any questions on any part of the process, feel free to ask. I'm trying to make this set up look as professional as possible.

 

Very nice. @Mr Marv is has an unbelievable amount of knowledge in regards to car audio, and his customer service is fantastic.

I went the same route is you, but I think you will find that your system will evolve over the time span of about a year. Mine certainly did.

 

It absolutely will. I believe I will keep this amp for sure though because of my lack of space. I already have different speakers picked out that will match the amp very well but I will have to run new speaker wires to the doors to power the components. My main goal is to keep everything as hidden as possible and finding a 5 channel to fit under the seat has been quiet the challege

 

Did you talk to Marv about the amp rack option?

I did but I'm trying to keep as much usable space as possible so the box is only going behind the single rear driver seat. I keep a nice amount of tools on the other side so I'd like to keep that in place

 

If you feel like it's too tight under there, put some one inch spacers on the rear bolts of that particular seat. It'll help your driving posture as well.....

 

The amp I picked out actually fits like a glove but it had to go under the passenger seat due to a piece on the track on the driver seat. I flipped the bar under the passenger seat an I actually might have enough clearance to space the amp above the vent so it will still be able to function

 

I will be sure to take plenty of pics of the fitment of the amp when I get it mounted. I'm going to cut the board I'm mounting it to today and may even get it mocked up for the install

 

well I finally got around to getting the amp in. Not quite as clean as I wanted but by far better than any other install I have done. This made a world of difference in sound. Took about 6 hours or so to run wires, cut to length, pull back out, solder my final connections, run everything again and put it all back together. I mounted the amp slightly crooked and now my seat wont move forward if I set it at a certain spot. Super easy fix though. Just shows that this really is the largest amp I can fit there

Yeah it's a bit snug but I'm happy with it. Now I just want to make a cover of some sort to keep the wires safe from people kicking them if there feet bo far enough under the seat

 

That's a great idea, just be wary of airflow restrictions with it. Airflow is going to be important to keep it cool. Though I don't think Class D amps get as warm as the old A/B amps

 

I wouldnt cover the amp or anything, just a small shield to keep feet from getting near the wires

 

well I pulled the seat to straighten the amp out and decided to weigh out the pros and cons of flipping it around. The only con was that I will have to pull the seat to make any adjustments but this way nobody will ever see or step on any of the wiring. I'll clean everything up under there when I get my sub box from marv and finish up the install

 

Speakers will be swapped out sooner than expected. Just got the jbl gto's in the mail. Speaker adapters will be here along with the box from mr marv.

 

Well it took longer than expected but was so worth the wait. My box and adapters cam in from marv and I am beyond impressed. I cant believe how seamless and well built this box is. I'm going to clear the box because of how nice it looks and I will paint the adapters. Hopefully will be able to start running new speaker wire and installing everything on tuesday

 

Mr. Marv is a true craftsman. Worth the wait every time.

 

I got the brackets painted up and speakers mounted in them. Now I need to run new speaker wires to the doors and dash. Also got the box all mounted and wired up. Just need to add my mounting bracket to keep the box from sliding forward. Cant believe how compact marv was able to keep the box. I clear coated the box but after seeing how nice the adapters came out I may do the same with the box. Still debating on if I should cut up the plastic bin that was back there to try and make it look nicer

 

I was able to get this same amp under the drivers seat, but i ran it longways.
