Made an appointment with my local Toyota dealer for the 15,000 mile checkup and to have previously purchased Bilstein 6112 shocks installed on our 18 TRD Sport. The dealer stated that it would be time & materials for the install. When the date arrived for my appointment I had been hospitalized so my wife brought our Taco in for service. Here is what we paid.

$390.00 – replace front shocks (customer supplied OEM TRD)
    $99.95 - 4 wheel alignment
    $26.95 - tax

    $516.90

    Seem unreasonable to you?

Nope. 3 hours, one guy, there you go. Fronts take some time.

tax is tax. I was pricing out alignments earlier this year and that seems to be fair. But $390 looks like maybe 3 hours of shop time, which seems too long for anybody with a lift and a full set of the right tools to do the work.

I wouldn’t call them bandits. Before you sign the papers you have to agree to the costs. Seems reasonable. They’re not charitable organizations you know. They also have bills to pay.

A lot of bills.... and the guy probably did it in 1.5 hours but I’m sure they charge flat rate.... can’t hardly blame a guy for being good at what he does!! I’m a tech at a motorcycle dealership. And have owned my own shop.... for all the easy jobs like that there is one that you lose money on because it ends up being a pain!!

Looks about right. My lady is not advised to go into any dealership service center unless I have already purchased parts (highly unlikely).

Sorry to hear you were in the hospital Pete. Hope the situation is better
