I recently bought a 2018 TRD Sport. Clean as could be and a CPO vehicle. When I got in it this morning to leave the brake pedal felt very hard and when I pushed the start button I got a msg that said, "Check Brake Status". Went on and took my wife's car and when I came home a couple of hours later it started right up as usual. Is this a common thing with the Tacoma or am I losing it?

There was a recall on some trucks for the brake master cylinder. I have a 2018 Sport and mine was under the recall. You may want to check into that. According the manual, Check Brake System message means brake fluid low, or system malfunctioning.
The recall involved the master cyl possibly having an internal leak, so definitely run your VIN here https://www.toyota.com/owners/ When you make a profile on that site you will also get any service history, so that will be nice since you got a Pre-owned truck.

OK, checked the Toyota Owners website and my vehicle is there showing no recalls which is questionable as I had one done the week I bought the truck. That was for a Pre Collision Sensor. I will have the dealer check it the next service interval. I did check the brake fluid and it is OK.

Once the recall is performed, that specific safety recall will no longer show up. Check you service history page to verify the recall has been logged/recorded by Toyota. Looks like you’ll need to get the truck to your dealership for diagnostics & repair...

I have checked the service history and no recall for brakes. Was that recall for ALL 2018 Tacomas?

Not every one, depends on when it was built. Look at the production period and see when yours was made.

OK, you knew this was coming- where do I find the production period or date? There is a sticker on hood but i see no date unless it is coded somehow.

Never mind. I found it on door pillar. 01/18 I still will have dealer check it out though. Thank you for all your help.
