OEM Remote Key Fob Replacement: Best place to get get it?

Both of my OEM remote fobs are broken (key ring clip at the top broke). I'm sure with the age of our vehicles this is normal.

What I'm wondering is where people have ordered the fob shells from and if it's as easy as replacing the internals and bam, you're in business. I would rather not go through reprogramming, etc. if I don't have to. Stealership was no help. They tried to sell me a silicone fob cover...

Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA.

 

Also, does anyone know the code for the pre-installed keyless entry/alarms (01-04 Tacoma)? SRQ Fabrications sells a shell that is tempting (a little pricey), but it ONLY fits the RS3000 Fob and I'm not sure if that is the exact code for my '03 Tacoma.

 

I bought remotes off Amazon for my 2nd gen. Looked into the dealer and they were big $! less than $15 and I had 2 new remotes. I did program them(super easy for my truck) but if you just have a broken shell you should be able to swap the circuit board over.

 

This is what I'm hoping to do, but wondering if anyone here has done so? I did see the Amazon versions, but the reviews were hit or miss...

 

The only difference I could tell was the Amazon remotes took a tiny bit more pressure to hit the buttons. I was nervous of buying a knock off, but after what a dealer quoted me for a toyota remote I was willing to try. In your case you really only want the shell, so less worry.

 

I used to work at a local place that sold new and refurbished key fobs. Replacing the internals is simple, crack the old one open and put the internals in a new shell. I got mine off eBay super easy to program. You know close the door open the door jump up and down but it wasn't that bad to program. The one I got off eBay looks just like the OME one. I have seen some shell's at the local parts store but don't know if I've seen a Toyota one. Can always look there.

 

The RS3000 fob looks like this.

I think it was more common on earlier Toyota vehicles. Most of our later in the generation trucks have a RS3200/BAB237131-056 fob from what I understand.

$25, but it will save the trouble of reprogramming a fob and the other one I was looking at form AutoZone (OEM Toyota part #) was $65. Will report back once I get the internals swapped.

 

If your remote has the little LED light (like mine does), make sure the transponder is the correct one. Most of the ones linked wont work with the models with the light (BAB237131-056)

 

I just programmed the one @adamdsgn linked to my truck this morning. I used the linked PDF instructions and it programmed fine. Swapping internals might be an issue since they aren't identical but programming the new one is very easy.

My truck has two OEM working RS3200 red light fobs but I wanted the aftermarket one since it's internals mimic a Tundra key fob without the light and will fit into the AJT Design Injection fobs.

 

I have a 2011 Tacoma. I just bought a new remote FOB from Amazon for $20 and used the link provided with the remote to program it. Easy.
