I hate that I'm even posting this. So a few weeks ago I noticed while changing my oil that I had an obvious oil leak while I was under the truck. From what I could see it looked like it was coming from the valve cover on the passengers side of the truck, also I suspected it was just more than a valve cover leak. First off to my surprise not all Toyota dealerships give you a loaner if you need one for an extended repair. I literally had to call multiple dealerships to see which ones offered me something to drive home. In my case this was 1.5 hours away. So I bring my truck in and they determine that it was leaking from the cam tower seal. I've heard of this actually but on Tundras not on the Tacoma. So they have to remove the motor from the truck, replace tons of gaskets, timing cover, etc. I get the truck back over a week later (not washed, oil still under it from the original leak.) Called corporate to file a case about an extended warranty on my truck, and actually was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was. They gave me an 8 year 125k mile warranty for my trouble. Fast forward 3 weeks, and I have the same exact leak happening again. Not even sure what to do next. I want the leak fixed, but I don't want my truck completely pulled apart again. I've called corporate to open my case back up and I'm waiting for a call back from them. I have a 1984 Toyota pickup that my grand dad bought new that I currently hunt on, and it doesn't leak a drop of oil. Any input would be great!

Take it back and have the work redone.

I thought all dealers had to provide a loaner if the repairs took more than 1 day.

I actually asked corporate about this and they said they have to at minimum offer me a ride. Which the dealerships that didn't offer a loaner did offer me a shuttle service. (what a joke)

Well, I guess a shuttle service does qualify as Transportation Assistance. You should ask them if the shuttle will come to your house and take you to work everyday, and pick you up and bring you home at the end of the day. Also, if you need to make a stop at the grocery store will they do that?

I hope everything works out for you with the leak, I can imagine its frustrating, but remember, stay calm as hard as it is, and things will work better for you.

Have them redo it. If it's leaking at the same spot, at least it sounds like they got the rest back together right.

Yeah I'm just wondering if they even fixed it at all. If what they did was for nothing the first time.

Absolutely, not to mention day care twice a day lol. Yeah I'm hoping they can get it all sorted out. Tough missing work for things that shouldn't happen in the first place.

Usually the "selling" dealer is more than happy to provide a loaner for one of their own customers. Calling around to other "out of town" (non-selling) dealers does not guarantee anything. Dealer policy is to keep loaners for service customers who purchased at their own facility. Policy statement above provides "Transportation Assistance". As usual ambiguous..
    Could be a bus ticket?

From my understanding when under warranty the service department bills Toyota for every little thing when someone brings a Toyota in for warranty work. I don't think it matters weather you purchased it from that dealership or not. I looked at the bill this particular dealer sent to Toyota. They billed for the loaner, parts, and labor. Labor was 22 hours by the way. Ouuuch.

Also the dealer closest to me said under no circumstance do they offer a loaner. They don't even have them. This was Priority Toyota in Richmond VA. Fairly large dealership too.

That's the first thing I found when I searched the first time. As far as I have found I haven't seen any 2018's with that problem. Anyway they lead tech told me that the timing cover had to be removed to do what they needed to do anyway. So I took that as, if that was the problem it was going to be re sealed regardless. Does that make sense?

Correct, but warranty work & dealer "niceties" are two separate things. Dealer service departments first priority is customers, THEIR customers. It's just the way it works & something to be mindful of. You have every right to get your vehicle serviced at any Toyota dealer nationwide, but the first question a service advisor will ask himself is, "why are you coming here"?
If you find the service quality better at an "out of town" dealer, let both parties know where you are buying your next vehicle!

Exactly! Let them know how you feel.. Let them know where your family and friends are buying the next vehicle.

I 100% agree with that. My only problem is I found a killer deal on my truck new about 4 hours way. Service with them isn't an option at this point lol. I did give all my local dealers a chance to match it at least.

Meh have them fix it again, I'd personally be pretty happy about trading some hassle for a free 8yr/125k warranty, sounds like a win to me :)
