So..... I went in for my 5,000 mile service and the dealer was instructed by Toyota not to touch my TSS sensor due to my grill, lift, and tires. I'm a 2019 DCSB OR. I'm sitting at "Pro" height... Pro grill, Pro skid and Bilstein 8112s and 5160s... 1 1/2" AAL in the back to keep the stock rake. I'm like... yawn... ok... whatever...

My TSS sensor has not given me any trouble other that after an extremely heavy rain I got a message saying TSS sensor was not operation for about 5 minutes... then I got another message saying TSS was operational.

Got a call today and Toyota now wants to fix my sensor, but they want to do what is in this document....

I say BS. I will never take my truck to the dealer again for service...

SPECIAL SERVICE CAMPAIGN (K0B)**Non-Toyota-Approved Modification - Owner Acknowledgment Form**

Certain 2018 -2019 MY Tacoma and Tundra - Millimeter Radar Wave Sensor

    Important Information

Your vehicle is involved in Special Service Campaign K0B. It is equipped with a Pre-Collision System (PCS) that may automatically apply the brakes if the system detects a potential collision. Due to the mounting of one of the system’s sensors, it is possible for water to enter the sensor. This can lead to PCS deactivation or inadvertent brake activation resulting in brief and limited vehicle slowing. The remedy involves an update to the PCS software and application of sealer to the millimeter wave radar sensor in the front grille. Also, in the rare case that the vehicle is currently exhibiting the condition, dealers will diagnose the sensor and replace it, as necessary, FREE OF CHARGE.

However, because your vehicle has non-Toyota-approved modifications as noted below, PCS and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) may not operate as designed regardless if this free remedy is performed. For example:

    • PCS may activate even if a collision is not likely.

    • PCS may not recognize a vehicle or a pedestrian when a preceding vehicle or pedestrian is ahead.
For more information on the effects of non-Toyota-approved modifications on PCS and DRCC, go to

      www.toyota.com/content/ebrochure/CFA_TSS_Precautions.pdf.

      Owner Acknowledgement

The non-Toyota-approved vehicle modification(s) present on the vehicle at the time of K0B repair is (are):

Lift kit changing ride height Oversized Wheels/Tires
Grille from different model/trim package installed Other__________________________________________
I understand that, due to non-Toyota approved modifications on my vehicle, PCS and DRCC may not operate as designed. I have been advised that, when the dealer performs the remedy for Special Service Campaign K0B, PCS will be set to “OFF”, PCS will be configured to retain the last setting following a key cycle. Also, a notification label instructing the driver to only use constant speed control and not to use DRCC will be applied to the dashboard. Toyota recommends the PCS and DRCC system NOT be used when non-Toyota-approved modifications are installed on my vehicle. I have also been advised that constant speed control mode should be used instead of DRCC if cruise control is used. If the vehicle is returned to factory condition, the PCS and DRCC systems can be used.

For more information about the PCS system on how to use constant speed control mode refer to section 4-5 of this owner’s manual.

NOTE: While PCS is deactivated, the PCS warning light will be displayed in the instrument cluster and a message will be displayed on the multi information display.

Page |2I understand that my vehicle will need the above selected non-Toyota-approved modifications removed at

my expense to ensure the PCS and DRCC systems work as designed. VIN

So now they will do the recall if you pay them to put your truck back to stock?

I had this happen twice in the same week in March, and once in December. When it happened it was on sunny afternoons. Well I made note of it when I scheduled the 5k/6month maintenance. I dropped it off at toyota couple hours ago and are looking at it. My truck has no modifications done to it and said nothing about it...yet.

    Here is what I mentioned:
On two occasions while driving home about 5:00-6:00pm there was a message in my dash saying pre collision disabled and traction control turned off, and auto lsd light came on. The same lights that turn on when the traction off button is pressed.

I'm sorry but Toyota is not the company they used to be. They are selling so many Tacomas, they can get away with anything.

    ...stuff
I read the OP twice. It appears that Toyota is unsure about their system’s reliability on a modified vehicle, so this is their way to cover their ass. We as a community love to tinker and modify our trucks but the vast majority of people do not.

My grille is on the delivery paperwork for my truck and there’s no notice of them informing me this would be a problem... I’m the type to pour gas on a fire so my service appointment next week is going to be sweet.

My issue is with this statement, "I have been advised that, when the dealer performs the remedy for Special Service Campaign K0B, PCS will be set to “OFF”, PCS will be configured to retain the last setting following a key cycle. My dealer did mine last week. I have 2"/1" lift and 265/75r16s. Im not sure if they have to re-calibrate the sensor but it took them almost two hours to complete the recall. Not a word was said about my lift or tires.

I just had a recall on mine done yesterday, the service guy mentioned that I don’t have my stock grille, but he said they’ll still take care of it and didn’t have to sign anything. Not sure if that’s cause I don’t have any lift on it or it’s a dealer by dealer case. My pro grille isn’t OEM either, got it off eBay :notsure:

if it aint broke......don't fix it.....they can't get the truck to run properly anyway, even if it is not modded......so fuck'em.....only issue is that if you have accident that they feel could have been prevented if system was working properly, they can't be held liable and you may be held liable for injuries of others.....but i an=m not sure about that....just MHO

I just got my truck back they updated the millimeter wave system, and put a cushion on the sensor to protect it from the elements. I guess water/debris gets in between the sensor and grill.

They wouldn't do mine either, but didn't give me any of this stuff. They replaced my brake master cylinder even though I have a lift.

My dealer is telling me the same thing that they'll have to set it to off? Don't I have a right for them not to touch it? I'm going in for my 20k service Saturday and when i mentioned doing this recall as well, he said i have to sign something and they turn it off. If I'm reading correctly, the TSS system will be shut off and I can't use it? Seems BS to me. Even if the system works a little wonky. My truck, my decisions right?

So... my question is if they shut off, can you turn it back on? Do we just do that via the electronic menu system on the steering wheel/dash... I also don't want a sticker on my truck's dash....

Yeah I dunno. I emailed him and waiting for a reply on if they can just not do anything. Its not like the system is that messed up or anything where they NEED to make it not work.

But thats a good point. Maybe he just meant deactivated but not permanently. So when i drive off i can just turn it back on?
