IDK if it'll help you or not but I also use these base plates on all of my shoes. Cheap, last forever and can easily be removed... VAST improvement over the chintzy plastic bases provided by Shimano for their cleats.

I'm rocking a set of 5.10 kestrels, but yeah, the little plastic spacers are pretty uninspiring.

While your problem sounds worse, if I remember correctly the cleats are not symmetrical. Depending upon which one you mount on which shoe you get less float and it's harder to clip out.

Some of them yes. But the ones I have are apparently not that way. But I have not problems clipping out. Just getting back in! Just gonna take practice.

Almost did that last night finishing my ride and tried to clip out of both sides simultaneously as I rolled into my garage. Apparently my foot-brain coordination bandwidth is less than what that required, and I almost fell over, while veering into my garage wall.

Honestly I doubt it’s any more expensive than flats. Seems like most folks running flats still buy specific shoes as well. I’m actually hit with sticker shock every time I’ve on a whim looked at the prices on flat pedals

    Hmmmm...,..

Well, my freeriders were about 100... and my aeffects were 110 per bike(x2)...
And my daughter(that rides my Salsa), wears pretty much whatever.... so.. basically saying I have no idea. I might consider giving it a whirl at some point.... but... I'm good for now

I think I'm in the right thread for this... Here's my first pass at a DIY bike rack. 60" 14-gauge slotted angle and 1/4" bolts with wing nuts to attach to bed cleats. No cutting required. Cost about $18, not including tie-down straps.

Took my Chameleon out for a few loops on a local trail, this bike is awesome! It’s supposed to rain soon so I’m sneaking in rides while I can.

Like Backcountry said; about the same... if you wear dedicated shoes for flats and high quality pedals.

You can get into clipless for probably $150~200 with budget shoes and pedals. My Shimano XT pedals were $80 and my XC7 shoes were $130
