New Bilstein 8112 Coilovers !

So Bilstein said to not go any tighter... obviously. I going to look into getting the top hat portion replaced. Looks to be easily replaced where it mounts up to the upper shock eyelet.

 

The guy I just bought my 8112s off of has the 700lb springs for sale. He ships super fast too.

Regardless if you can get away with the extra weight you really should just get the right springs for it.

Accutune lists 14” 600# springs are good for up to 400 lbs of additional weight. I am kinda new at this but that’s why I want to hear from 8112 owners to get their input??

 

Considering the 3rd gen is 300lbs heavier in the front than a 2nd gen and the stock OR springs are 700#, Accutune is likely wrong

You WILL get sag with 600# springs

I run 700# and they are nice once they break in after about 1000 miles

 

How much added weight do u have with 700#

I've had my suspension on for several months and I love it. The ride is smooth, planted, responsive on the road and then soft when it needs to be... For example, I can hit really big dips and bumps at 40mph and the suspension just absorbs it like it was nothing. When hitting big, hard bumps or deep dips fast I can hear the secondary valving on the 8112s kick in --sorta a clicking sound: hit, compression, faint "Click", rebound, faint "click". Handling and ride is great. I am running Wildpeaks 265/75/R16s with about 32 psi in them. I get 16-17 mpg around town and 18-20 on the freeway.

As far as the 5160s in the rear... I'm of the mindset that a shock is a shock. It's job is ride control, stability and dampening. It's not designed as a load carrying device. I went with a 3 leaf AAL pack to raise the back of the truck 1 1/2" and to increase load carrying capability just a bit. I carry about 250lbs worth of gear in it and don't notice a difference (aluminum dog box, two dogs, dog training equipment, guns, gear and ammo). The only thing i've notice with the 5160s is I sometimes get a little rear end "buck" going over bumps fast that I wonder if it would go away with 8100s.

2” ADS. It was a tough choice between ADS and the Billy 8112’s.
I do more fast trail riding so the extended travel race shocks were more desirable plus the adjustability

I purchased those springs. Did you install your 8112s yet ?

 

Not yet, I was going to wait until I had the rear setup acquired and then install everything together, but that might be another month and I may get impatient and just throw the front ones on this weekend lol

Let me know if you get your installed and what you think, haven't heard a bad word about these shocks yet

 

I have been drooling staring at these in my garage for weeks. I’m installing with the 700# springs next weekend rain or shine

 

Why don't you have the rears? Was there a lead time, or you just couldn't buy it all at once?

 

would be cool if you could modify these coilovers to lower instead of lifting the truck.

 

Wasn't planning on doing anything with my suspension until next year just because I've been spending so much $ on toys lately (got into kiteboarding and paramotoring recently), but came across a good deal on 8112s so I just pulled the trigger... but still wasn't ready to drop $3k to get the rear setup exactly how I'd want so was just going to hold onto the 8112s until my bank account recovered from all my spending.

But now found a good deal on some used 8100s so just gonna bite the bullet, buy an Icon RXT leaf pack and be done with it all in a few weeks.

I tell myself its responsible because I'm saving $ by spending money now vs waiting and paying new price for everything next year, so its cleary the fiscally responsible choice
