I just finished installing the Alpine Halo 9 aka iLX-F309 in my 2nd gen 2015 Tacoma DCSB and absolutely love it. I’ll post some pics and video later today.

I contemplated going with the Halo Jr but decided with the Halo 9 because of the gauges. I bought the HU from Abt.com, got the dash kit from ebay (scosche kit because of the metal mounting bracket - not plastic like the Metra and other kits on market), and bought all of the install gear from crutchfield (Maestro RR and harness) for the tech support. I did have to remove a capacitor in the maestro wiring harness as it was feeding power back into radio causing the radio to stay on. I also installed a bypass so I can access the menu/options while driving. I believe the difference from Halo to Halo Jr is that I have access to gauges, i.e. TPMS and voltage.

I previously had an Kenwood in my truck however it was always glitchy and would stay away from Kenwood in the future, just my personal experience.

I bought the JL Audio C5-650 components for the doors and coax for the rears. I also got the dynamat mega pack for lining inner and outter doors and floor and back wall.

My goal is to buy the amp mounting rack from taco tunes, have Mr Marv build me a box for either 1 or 2 TW5’s or go with the JL stealth box and a JL amp to match highs and lows.

Where are you guys having issues with the Nav? Just curious cause I live in a major metro area where roads are constantly being rerouted due to construction and such, and it does pretty well for me. Only time I've had it be completely wrong was on some brand new bypass in BFN Kentucky

This mounting looks absolutely ridiculous. I'm glad you like it, it's your truck and that is definitely the point. I'd never have it. It sucks that so many aftermarket options for mounting new headunits are so terrible.

With the CarPlay the Alpine uses either Google Maps or maps from your iPhone/Android; if your going off road or rural area you can download google maps and it will use the GPS antenna from the radio to track your location. I guess the mounting is the only option for a 9” display to work in a small place, I dont mind.

This is the perfect HU, except it doesn't have wireless Android Auto/Car Play. If it had it, I would have sold my liver already.

It blows my mind that Alpine still hasn't added wireless CarPlay/AndroidAuto functionality to their Halo9 lineup. #fail

Does this thing link to your ODB port? I have had it sitting in my garage a few weeks and had no idea it could do all this. Im hoping to get it installed this week when I find some time.

It does link to the ODB port in order to get the info, one thing I didn’t mention in the video is that it does show the tire pressure but also the tire temp - just a side note.

After a little research I think I need to order a maestro to get all the cool stuff to work. Crutchfield recommended their crux adapter. I dont think that will link the engine/ tire info.

I'm tempted to replace mine with the 2020 OEM HU with android auto all the cameras, if that's possible. I would miss the larger screen though. I've really gotten used to that and not sure I can go back to stock size. Wonder how much that HU would cost compared to the updated version of this one (whenever they finally update it).

Still very happy with my Halo9.
