Sure, if we have more than 10 for white mountain were going to have to split it into 2 smaller groups. You guys wanting to try White Mountain or planning a different one? Anyone doing WM has to have 4wd and AT tires (lift highly recommended) or it wont be doable. Some people will be doing the easier trails like Holcomb Valley Rd, gonna decide on all that when we meet up

The original meet up spot was the trail head at Green Valley Rd/Crab Flats Rd. That eventually gets us on 3N16/Holcomb Valley Rd, from there it's maybe 10 miles of fire road to get to the White Mountain...takes about 30 - 45 minutes with a bigger group. So if we meet at that spot on Green Valley Rd at 9am, we won't get to the White Mountain trail head until probably 10am (allowing for some time for everyone to arrive). After airing down we won't be on White Mountain until closer to 1015 1030 realistically.

The other option is to meet at the White Mountain trail head at 9am...there are a few different ways to get there that might be better for some people depending on which area they're coming from.
There are a network of fire roads from White Mountain trail head back up to Big Bear that are normally 2wd friendly for those that don't want to do White Mountain, but everyone should have 4x4 on this trip because of the rain.

What do you guys want to do? I'm kind of open to whatever the group wants but for those of us doing White Mountain, the earlier we start the better.

The more I think about it, I'd prefer to meet at the White Mountain trail head but I know there are some that were planning on doing other trails...the White Mountain trail head starts at the bottom of the mountain on the desert side (Lucerne Valley I think).

I think it might be best if we decide here on this thread who for sure is coming and wants to do what...White Mountain or explore the fire roads. That way those of us doing White Mountain can meet at that trail head at 9am and those of you wanting to hit the fire roads can do so from the best starting point for you guys at 9am (or whenever you want to do it).

So who for sure is coming on Saturday and wants to do what?

According to the 1st post on the page, these are confirmed for White Mountain

Where is the White Mountain Trailhead you're talking about? Is it the entrance to Coxey Road in Fawnskin?

Edit: nvm, you posted at the same time I did. Are you talking about where we went last time?

No that's just the Coxey Rd Trail (aka 3N14), White Mountain starts where 3N17 and 4N16 intersect, theres a trail marker for it

we could start from Fawnskin up in Big Bear and work our way down, it's kind of a lot of driving up that mountain though just to go back down it (and then back up) lol. Plus from Fawnskin it's still about 10 miles of fire road to get to the White Mountain trail head, so we'd be looking at starting WM around 10am at the absolute earliest.

That's what I'm thinking is best as far as getting an early start on the trail, cause if we meet up in Fawnskin or Green Valley at 9 it'll be at least another hour (probably hour and a half) before we actually start White Mountain.

But honestly I'm open to whatever the group wants...but Sat is approaching and this is kind of crumbling apart haha. I have no doubt you and I know where to go cause we've been there before but I would hate for others that are coming there for the 1st time to get lost or turned around trying to figure out where we're meeting

I can post maps and coordinates that are Googlemaps friendly but for now I think it'd be best if we a.) got a solid confirmation from those wanting to do White Mountain now that we know there's going to be bad weather and b.) determined exactly where we want to meet to get the best start

Yea it seems best to meet where pavement ends. Would be easier for most people to find it. Plus I'm concerned that meet at the White Mountain trail start at 9 is too early for most people, especially my friends that are coming from west side. We'd have to leave Pasadena at like 6 or 630 am to make it to that point by 9. Plus the fact that there's some dirt trails and fire roads to get there would delay people. I worry about reception there as well, if someone is late, we'd have no way to contact them to find out their status, like if theyre late or bailed or lost.

    yeah that's true

Well the 3 ways I know of to get to White Mountain from where the pavement ends are the route in from Hesperia, the route in from Green Valley, and the route down from Fawnskin.

Starting from Fawnskin is a lot of up/down the mountain and starting from Hesperia is a pretty long drive, so maybe we plan on meeting at the Green Valley starting point like originally stated.

In which case the staging area where we meet is at the intersection of Crab Flats Rd and Green Valley Rd, 9am.

The basic route is Crab Flats Rd --> 3N16 --> 3N14 --> 4N16 --> 3N17 (White Mountain)....if I remember that right. 3N16 continues on for awhile around the north end of Big Bear and is a cool/easy drive for those that want to do that instead.

I’m in for white mountain, and I’m up to meet where ever and at whatever time you guys that have been there think is best/easier/convenient lol if there are coordinates it definitely would make it easier for me too since I’m horrible with directions.

So here's the route on Strava GPS that I had posted before

I was thinking we'd meet at the start point on that route, just before Green Valley Lake. We'd all follow that route (possibly in smaller groups with some separation between us, though maybe not since its a wide fire road, and is easy to pass if we meet opposing traffic at any point)

When we get to the intersection of 3N16 and 3N14, where Big Pine Flats Campground is, the White Mountain crew would go up 3N14 to the White mountain trail following that GPS route, and the other group can keep going straight on 3N16 and explore that trail. Then maybe meet back up at the Big Pine Flats Campground intersection and drive out, either down to Fawnskin along 3N14, or back to Green Valley Lake the way came up along 3N16. Making for an awesome day all around.

Let me know what you guys think.

Just a weather update for you guys. Looks like the weather channel has now posted thunder storms for Saturday and Sunday with 80-90% chances of rain. 50-80% Chances of rain Thursday and Friday. The roads should be slick up there so make sure to take the appropriate recovery gear just in case.

Yeah that's the same spot I mentioned, Crab Flats Rd is what Google Maps calls it there but it's also 3N16

For reference here's the Google maps screenshot, it's the same spot

yeah if it's absolutely pouring when we attempt WM we might have to reconsider some things lol. There are some steep climbs on that trail but once you get to the top, there are only a few smaller climbs but it's mostly flat then downhill from there.
