What stops the bike from swinging as you turn? Potentially bashing your cab and the sides of your bed?

Honestly, I don’t think you’d regret a Chameleon. They are great bikes, and you can convert them between 27.5, 29, or single speed. You could run a 29er with 110-130 of travel. As the name implies, they are capable of a ton of different roles. Let me know if you have any specific questions that I could answer.

And yet I am 5'7" and my CrossCheck is a 54. Almost all of my "road" bikes are 54s. But I have also been told that I should be riding 52s but I find the top tube to be too short and my toes touch the front wheel.

Mountain bikes tend to be a medium for me.

That goes to show you that we all come in different shapes and sizes even if two people’s heights are the same. Johnny could have bean pole legs and t-rex arms and Tony could have stumps and mutumbo arms. Lol

Completely agree. It seems to be more about torso size and leg length, and "flexibility".

    Demo....

Went through several.. it ended up a toss between the stache, and the salsa timberjack....
The TJ offered more flexibility, 27.5+/29er, etc, plus my daughter was more comfortable on it. Still plenty of fun.

Fit is personal IMHO. I like the quick turn in, and agility, over "slack".

just to clarify and not to battle: chameleon is also flexible, also 27.5+/29, and only .1 degree slacker (no one would notice the difference between 67.4 vs 67.3), higher resale value is something to consider. that said, the titanium tj frame is pretty BA

Not at all trying to add any fuel to a nonexistent argument, but the Stache I just sold also shared the same multi wheel/drive flexibility. No clue on how the geo compared.

The chameleon was on my shortlist when I got the Stache. I just still find it intriguing.

Still liking the idea of a shorter travel 29er though. I’m liking the looks of the Devinci Django, but there are a couple sexy local options at good price points that I’m mulling over (2018 Norco Optic C2, 2018 Ibis Ripley LS, 2019 Kona Satori). Then there’s the frugal portion of me that’s considering an older Kona Process 111. :annoyed:

We lapped around the Colleyville nature center, so no real trails. It looks like everything everywhere is closed due to the rain right now :/

This is exactly why I referenced Stack and Reach as well as posting the geometry of the Surly Cross Check in my previous post. Even Surly's first two specs on that page are Stack and Reach... those two, more than all the others, will determine comfort and best fit if you know your body measurements and how you prefer to sit on a bike.

Prefer a more upright seating position; higher stack... have longer arms/torso and prefer a lower/more aero position; longer Reach. Once you have those numbers, you can interchange them between almost any bike that's close to your optimal position and be comfortable. Sometimes it's as simple as changing out a stem for one that's shorter, longer, has more rise, etc...

The Pro's Closet just put out a great primer that boils it all down. Geometry and Fit are in the last section.

Help me spend my money. Goal is for a shortish travel 29er that will be a one bike to do it all in southeast terrain (IE climbing and descending). I am open to 27.5 if its the right machine.

    Disregard the asking prices.

I'm also entertaining some Santa Cruz options, but haven't found the right one at the right price yet: Tallboy/Hightower/Chameleon/5010

Then theres the frugal side of me.

Canyon is having a sale right now. You could get a new spectral for a little above that spending limit but since you want shorter travel the Neuron would be perfect. The Newer Aluminum 7.0 is on sale right now for $200 off. You get Eagle and good suspension and components. Even a GX Rear mech.

    https://www.canyon.com/en-us/mtb/neuron/neuron-al-7-0

If you wanted to save some money, the older AL 6.0 is also on sale for $200 off. This one doesnt have eagle tho

    https://www.canyon.com/en-us/mtb/neuron/neuron-al-6-0

I personally ride a YT Jeffsy AL Base and love it. It climbs everything here in tennessee and rides down the hills great, im faster on my jeffsy than any bike ive ridden (FS Superfly and Remedy)

Unfortunately the Jeffsys are out of stock and wont be shipping out until July

Since you are looking at bikes upward to $3K You could get a carbon Canyon or YT for around $3,400 brand new instead of a used bike
