Juat want to add that I've been using mine for 4 months on my non-garaged taco. Only sprinkles of water leak in when I hose it.

    It's light, practical, and secure!

Just installed mine tonight. You’re guide was super helpful. Didn’t even look at the factory directions after the first step. 8E9C705D-3BDE-4AC2-BF10-D3155511B066.jpg

    Hey Taco brother:

Thanks for posting this. I got one also after comparing different models. Had I know it’d been that much double to adjust it, I’d have found soke place to do it. But I knew I could. I have it on and now, it’s just a matter of fine tuning the bracketry and latches to where it easily closes and opens. You’d think it’d all be “pre-adjusted” and ready to go from the factory store but no. Anyway. Fortunately I wasn’t missing any hardware. But I like it and how it looks. I though of maybe getting the personal caddy, but at that price? Ha ha.

I’ll find me something else. I’ll likely get a bed mat next so whatever I decide to use stays put in the front.

Appreciate the instructions and pics. I’ll print these and reverse what I did as I tweak it.

But your right their instructions miss some steps.

    Curtis

I've had mine for about 2 years now and I really like it. I have a cargo divider set up so that I can use the area under the front panel (cab end) can be used as
a trunk for groceries or luggage. I hate it when stuff gets scattered in the bed.

You might want to invest in a bed mat, well worth the money. It will stop things from sliding around, the bed is like an ice rink without one.

Have had mine for 5ish months now- love being able to use both sides!
Also thanks OP for this write up, it was beyond helpful on the install.
Still need to tweak it for a more flush fit, but even as it sits little to no water gets inside.

Way ahead of you. I got one when I got the cargo divider.

Installed mine today in an hour and 1/2 by myself thanks to your instructions. I did manage to snap one of the bolts that secures the cover rail to the rear striker bracket. Emailed the company to see if they offer replacements. I also didn't use lock tite but plan on doing so once the seals conform to the bed and in case I have to adjust it.

ETA: So I got a call from the company and they're sending me out a new bolt. Great customer service!

Thanks @TheTraveler. I'm about ready to pull the trigger and purchase this G4 elite. Based on this write up and tips, I think I can shave a bit off the install time. I just had to return a Truxedo Sentry that would not fit on my '18 Double Cab longbed and I'm trying to avoid any further install issues. Any chance you can update this review feed and let us know how the cover is working out for you? Does it stay relatively dry? Any regrets or issues? Ever needed to completely remove it and if so, was that hard to take off and put back on, require tedious realignment, etc.? Thanks!

    Good morning all,

I apologize, I haven't been around much. I kind of drift from project to project, and therefore forum to forum.

I haven't done much to my Taco since I got this on, and some other stuff done. Just haven't had a reason to mess with it now that I have it how I want it. Although I am looking to install some blue lights for FD response instead of the suction cup bar on my windshield, but that's another story.

My G4 cover is still awesome, still lovin' it! I have not had to ever adjust it or reset it since I got it set just after install. When I did install it I did not use the rubber molding for around the tailgate, but the cover is still, for all intensive purposes, waterproof. Carwash or spraydown will get a few drops in the bed, but that's it. I've never experienced anything more than that. Heavy rains, either driving or sitting, haven't done anything at all.

If there are any small nuisances they would be 1) Giving up the space up front when I need to haul something larger. Dirtbike, for example. I'm not comfortable nosing it up against the cover in the folded front position and I don't want to go through the work to remove the cover. 2) You have to be careful when you close the tailgate that you flip the back panel up, or else you'll damage the rubber flap at the rear and it will be out of form. Those are the only two complaints, and they are very, very small. Well worth the purchase and install, and I wouldn't have done it any differently if I bought the truck new again.

For me this G4 was the right choice.

PS...be careful setting things on it and/or just letting it flip. You can easily put small dents in the aluminum panels.

Great write up, great looking cover but I’m glad I went with the Undercover Ultra Flex after seeing all the hardware you had to deal with. The Undercover has 3 of the slide in clamps and three bolts plus a couple nuts to hold the front down. Had it on it 15 minutes with one socket. I’d say yours will seal better than mine in the long run but so far not a drop of water in my bed and I didn’t even hook up the drain tubes.

Funny how states differ so much, one FD I’m on allows whatever red lights the state allows and the other dept I just joined will not let you run a red light at all. If I ran a blue light I would probably get locked up for impersonating a police officer.

That is strange for sure having conflicting rules (I'm assuming in one state). I'm in Indiana and we've got a state wide blue light law.

I have had mine for 2 years now and think its the best cover that has met my need. I agree about the bed mat, that really keeps things from sliding around.

how do you secure the panels once it's stacked up near the front? with a strap, similar to other folding tonneaus? any pics?

It's a tri-panel. When you flip the rear panel up, it lays on the middle panel, and you cannot secure it that way. You then flip those two panels up onto the front panel, and then you secure it. It has three small straps: two on each front outside corner and one on the underside of the front panel. You snap those three straps to secure it.

Dummy me left it unsecured once, and one panel flipped back while I was driving down the road. Did not cause any damage, but it could have. When they are snapped in place they feel very secure.
