At the risk of offending the OP, I'll state my opinion. If you want a reliable Japanese truck you don't intend to do any serious off road adventures, buy a first or second gen Tundra. I owned a first gen for 17 years and it served me very well. I drowned it after 17 years in a giant mistake and chose a Tacoma as a replacement, because they're light and do better off road. Light-weight is your friend off-road. Tundra's can be had for WAY cheaper, if you're just looking for a reliable truck.

I have the impression, right or wrong, with a double cab, you're not looking to get all crazy off-road. I am, and have winch, rear locker, CB, recovery gear, etc.

Something noteworthy I saw in the ad, it's only been up for 9 hours. To me, the amount of time listed is crucial.

I'm not saying I'd give asking price, I am saying I'd show up, fucking soon, with a reasonable offer - like 13k cash with something in the back pocket to sweeten. Also, know the ad is recent might make me spring sooner, for more money. Judgement call.

I paid cash for mine but agree with this post below, most banks won't loan money on a vehicle this old.

I don't have any crazy off road hopes I hunt and would have the rare trail ride. I can't afford that V8 in the tundra or i would prefer that. Would mostly be an everyday driver

they are probably non-existent in my area, I am sure I would spot one out there on the road if there were many here
nothing but 3rd and 2nd gens dc

that's why when I asked a used lot dealer (out of curiosity) what they would list mine for if it were to be on their lot
no bank would loan more than 7 or 8 for a 20+ year old vehicle

    Yes, AT only.

If the frame was truly spotless, timing belt done, and overall was in excellent condition, $15 is a fair price.

Id go 14K if the timing belt was not done.

$13K cash could work with a motivated seller in person...

Anything less would likely be ignored as a low ball

I think its a decent deal...but you should be able to get it down a grand or two.
I bought my 2003, 4x4 4 cyl (manual) with 92k miles in northern VA for 11,700 with no frame rust to worry about...that was in 2013.

6 years later she's still getting me around with no problems @ 165k miles.

Like others have said, give the frame a good hard look from front to back and give it a good hard tap with a screw driver. They DO salt the roads in that area. I used to live there...but not as often as the true rust belt.

Yes they will. They won't overpay though. If 90% of x sell for $10, the bank isn't going to loan you $100.

He wouldn't budge for $1.00 to sell it, hahaha. Wow...there's gotta be more to it. He probably made bet a with a buddy that he COULD sell it for 15k.

No he had a loan on the truck and 95% sure he was in a money crunch from the bank and couldn't afford to take anything less. He had it for around 2 years from the orginal owner

That's just not true. Doesn't matter how much down or how great a deal, many banks limit the age of the vehicle. Example: Chase is 2009 and up.

That's absolutely not true . Some banks limit, not all banks do. Just because bank x requires y doesn't mean ALL banks require it.

    Chase in particular

    "
With the quality of cars improving and some owners holding onto their cars for over 10 years, dealer lots are filled with a wide variety of high mileage used vehicles. If the family budget is tight and the only option is a decade-old car, is it difficult to line up a loan for a vehicle that is 10 or more years old?

Not so, according to one Chase banker as well as a senior economist for the Credit Union National Association. Some banks, including Chase, and most credit unions will consider loans on used vehicles that are 10 years of age or older. "
