    Anyone hear of Whitfield stoves?

Seems to be a handful of used ones for sale locally.

They were made by Lennox before they went under, right?
Probably similar quality to my Thelin, at a guess. Good as a backup/occasional heat source, but I wouldn't want to rely on one.

Had some trees cut down recently. Then this happened. The tree cutters left us with logs. We sliced them up and then split them. Mostly poplar with some cherry, oak, walnut, and mystery fruit tree mixed in. The poplar was a twin trunk monster, ~100 feet tall!

I've spent the last couple of summers eliminating all of the big tall poplars from around the house, just so I could get at a pair of dead-standing and a leaner that was hanging over the garage. Not much for overnight heat fuel, but it works great in the cookstove; lights easy, burns fast and hot, and leaves nothing behind but some powdery ash.

It's now May in SoCal and I just had to restock the back porch (that I just cleared off because we were having 85 degree days) because a cold winter storm is rolling through for the next week or so. I really wish Mother Nature would pick a season already...

29 at the house this morning. 33 by the time I left for work (the sun had come up). I didn't check the temperature inside the house, but when I fired up the pellet stove to take the chill off (for when the GF got up) I had to let it run for nearly 30 minutes before the thermostat hit 72 and kicked it off.

46 tonight at my house. Considering that's a full 40* cooler than it was last week, it's a heck of a drop, especially for May.

It did the same thing out here. It was 80-90 according to the temp display in my car earlier this week. A massive storm rolled through on Wednesday evening and the temps plummeted. They dropped so much that the TPMS light came on, and I had to add about 8 lbs to every tire. It was nice and cool Thurs and Fri. It was great.

Snow in the forecast for tomorrow. Means I'll have to scramble when I get home tonight, to get the garden covered up.

Ha, we lit the stove up last night. High 30s at night and sunny during the day.

Stopped over at a buddy's house last night to drop a leaner for him. Big Silver Maple that got blown over during a windstorm this spring. He got quoted almost $500 from a local arborist JUST to drop it, because of the proximity to the power lines that feed the house. I think that was a "go away" quote, honestly, since the tree was 30 feet and leaning roughly 30 degrees away from parallel to the lines, but whatever. :notsure:

Took me 10 minutes to set up my rigging gear and 5 minutes to drop it, easy peasy. Maybe I'm in the wrong business, lol.

Did a little firewood work this afternoon. These 5 footers are mostly Maple with some Cherry, and they're a lot lighter now than they were when I put them here roughly 20 months ago.

    Hey guys.

Been working on installing a wood stove in my living room.

    Just finished the stone work.
    2184508C-2121-4B93-A6DD-AE7DEAB8E18C.jpg

Today I started messing around with the stove pipe and came across something.

I’m using duravent double wall stove pipe. It’s a telescopic section from the top of the stove to the ceiling box.

I ordered it from woodland direct. I told the guy what I was doing and we pieced together everything I needed. However when I went to assemble it, they wanted me to use this-
    7D007169-2E65-4C2D-B476-F8D71A58B24C.jpg

Which would be fine for single wall stove pipe, but when I slide my double wall pipe over it, it looks like this-
    E1EFAC77-EA54-4581-AE79-047A59B9E429.jpg

Which didn’t look right to me, so I called them and did some research while I was on hold. They insulted me and told me I didn’t know what I was doing, and kept repeating that this can’t be installed by a home owner, that it has to be installed by a professional...

I found this piece online, which is designed for attaching double wall stove pipe to the ceiling box-
    EE010BC3-C50A-4D5A-81D2-A69AD170F661.jpg

There are even a few videos from Northline express showing how it connects to double wall pipe. But I can’t find any videos anywhere showing double wall pipe connected to the original connector they sent me.

So this new piece will be here Friday, and I have no doubt that this will be exactly what I needed, and those guys from woodland direct can go suck it.

And to give some more pictures incase anyone thinks I have the pipe upside down...

Bottom section- I have this on top of a damper, which is attached to the stove flue

Looks really good. The new flange definitely looks like what you need. I'm sure the other one will work but it doesnt look good or right

    Thanks man!

I wasn’t sure if the air between the 2 walls needed somewhere to go, but didn’t like how it looked anyway.
