TRD Pro Grill Garnish Installation

Hey guys - I was able to get an OEM 2018 TRD Pro Grill with the sensor garnish. Question though, I ordered the lock washers Part Number

$9 90183-06044 Lexus Genuine Factory 2 EMBLEM NUTS 90183-06044

90183-06044 to hold the garnish in place, but have no idea how to attach them. Any suggestions?

Very hard to do by hand, buy some rubber washers and it hold it in place. Can't remember the size though. I did this trial and error.

 

Push in as far as it will go then use a needle nose plier to push it flush to the grill. Check around the garnish and grill to make sure it's all even all around.
It should sit flush evenly.

If you want to go a step further and not get error from snow or rain, you can use a thin strip of foam around the garnish to keep moisture from seeping into the sensor. I've yet to get ANY error from heavy downpours.
You can't see the foam unless you look for it. I'm a bit OCD so it has to look clean.

 

The lock washers are pretty easy to install if you hold the garnish and use a small socket to push the washer onfrom the other side. As far as errors the dealership tss repair looks like a huge flap of rubber/foam that just hangs over the sensor on the back

 

For as much as they charge for the garnish they don't come with the necessary hardware to install it???

 

The washers were like ¢10 each but yeah they should've come with the garnish

 

I bought my pro with 12 miles on it and it didn't have those washers installed on the garnish. I questioned why it was loose before I signed and they told me it was normal. I laughed and said I'd fix it myself. A quick search here showed how and I took it back and had them do it. That was a mistake. I asked the service mgr. to make it so it was flush with the rest of the grille and he gives it back to me all angled to the sky.

I’ve got an OEM Pro Grille waiting to be installed. It’s the 2016-2017 version, but has the TSS sensor opening. When I install the separate garnish, it also looks angled to the sky when pushed in all the way. If I “make it flush”, there’s barely any washer stud poking through the holes at the top. Not sure what to do about this yet.

 

Where can I find these washers for a dime? Amazon has OEM washers for $4.00 EACH!

 

Use a longer 7mm socket push them on, deeper is better, shallow and it won't go down all the way. I think that's what it was. With the washer having the tabs pointing up, I'd point them towards the front/garnish. I did mine with the tabs pointing towards the engine and mine is loose and rattles around. I'm going to pull it off and try to flip them. Some have said that's how their's was and some of the PRO's on dealer lots were. I think it just depends on who assembled it.

 

Nope. They assume it's a replacement part, so you'd just reuse the old ones or whoever replacing them (shop) would have them on hand. Probably save money and make more money in the long run.

 

For the thread and answering my own question, these washers are M6 internal star lock push on washers. Should be available at just about any hardware I would think.
The plastic “studs” at the top of the inside garnish are just under a 1/4” diameter. Should be able to use 1/2”x1/4” rubber washers if desired.

I’m thinking my garnish is going to end up being custom fit with all of the above, plus a little epoxy to keep things from rattling around. No way do I want it not sitting flush with the outside of the grille. Damned thing looks bad enough as it is.

 

I think a thin rubber washer and star washer would be perfect. I wouldn't use epoxy just to in case.

 

Yeah, you’re probably right on the epoxy. I just hope there’s enough garnish stud for washer to grab and keep things flush on the outside.

 

Do you really need to order the washers? I just used the silver washers from my off road and it fit great.

 

There's definitely enough. If the socket is too shallow, the nub won't go far enough into the socket to seat the star washer.

 

Do you have any pictures of how you did the foam? I live in washington state and want to limit the amount of moisture so hopefully I won't have to replace a sensor or something

 

Like this:

Use the 1/4" extension (open end) to get them started. Just until the teeth get around the little post.
Finished them all the way with the 10mm.

Put a block of wood (I covered it with vinyl for a little extra protection) under the garnish, the rappy-tap the tool (extension/socket) with a hammer.

Medium, quick, firm hits should work.
