what were the symptoms before it stopped working, just to compare if that is my issue happening
i have an intense vibration coming from inside on the passenger side only after having the A/C on for awhile then turning it off
the rattle only happens when I step on the gas and accelerate, and then goes away when i coast
    it is weird

I went to turn on my ac and a horribke squeak happend then it stopped blowing the cold air.

The rattling could be your air box if it isnt bolted down

i explained the problem to a ToyoTech mechanic today and he has never encountered this issue in his 10+ years
so this has gotta be some aged gremlin
it blows sorta cold, and felt like a loss of power when trying to accelerate one day but not the next
i had it recharged and leak checked about 7yrs ago

Be sure to flush your system (evaporator and condenser) and look for shrapnel and debris in the fluid that comes out. An old compressor can self destruct and leave contamination in the system. That contamination will cause a new compressor to fail. There are many resources for A/C compressor and system replacement that apply to all vehicles.

I use this A/C Pro product to flush out a system and look for contamination, followed with compressed air. If you find shrapnel and contamination in your system, get ready to purchase new evaporator and condenser units. Good Luck.

I take it you have the gauges and vacuum pump required for a compressor swap.

you need to replace the drier also. Any time you open the AC system. As for oil, you can use PAG46 oil from auto parts stores. The FSM calls for 100-120cc of oil to be added to the new compressor. The compressor you purchase may have oil already in it, my advice is don't risk it. Remove the top plate, hold it upside down and spin the clutch to get any oil out of the compressor. Then add in the correct amount. You will also need to add oil to the drier. You can recharge the system but I would just go to a shop for this, should only cost $50-100. Same for evacuating the existing refrigerant out (if you have any), they might not charge for this at all if you go back to them to get it recharged when done installing new parts.

Don't forget to use new O rings and oil the O rings before installing them and the parts.
