Yes. Dealing with gas places where I am is a huge pain. They don't want to deal with any walk in home garage people, and always like to argue and scrutinize whether you own your tanks or not. They definitely price gouge the little guy.

Be very cautious when swapping tanks. Know what to look for so you don't end up trading your privately owned one for a scrupulously marked potential lease one that they will try and confiscate from you the next time you try and have it filled. Also, make sure the certification date on the swapped tank is relatively current. Sometimes they will try and give you one that is going to expire on your clock and you will be on the hook for next cert. There are also some gas places that won't even touch a tank that isn't theirs.

Anybody have experience with this unit?

My Hobart is dead since the motherboard costs quoted more than a new unit, same model. The unit had low hrs but beyond warranty. Very dis-appointed in Hobart/Miller response.

Primeweld is Chinese (sorry Hypertherm guys your beyond my budget), but they have US office in NJ and 24/7 customer supper on the 3yr warranty. Amazon only has 6 reviews, but all are 5 star confirmed purchases.

I probably really only need up to 1/2" or so capability, but this gives me about 1", with better features I want, for $649.00 + free shipping.

    Anybody using one now?

No experience, but if going the cheap route, I'd go with Harbor Freight plasma cutter. They have a 90 day warranty and you can buy an extended warranty that is actually worth it.

There are HF stores everywhere and they are open every day. I can't see a downside to one of their cutters.

on any offshore unit make sure that consumables are readily available. probably a plus for HF.

I am curious why you felt you had a poor response from Miller for a out of warranty machine ??

What ever model it might be .

Since I have no clue what a Mother board might be are you talking Control board ??

I would listen to Kirk go with the Harbor Freight Unit

I'm thinking about switching over to gas shielded. I been doing flux core for years and getting tired of the slag look. Any advice?

It is a personal thing .

Myself I think the Mix was just a way to charge more for gas

I am sure for finished products it makes some difference I was never that finicky .

I am guessing your feeder is set up with a gas solenoid all you need is a Flow Meter and at least one cylinder of 75/25 if your only doing steel

After doing flux for a year I made the switch to gas and I love it. I’ll never go back unless the environment dictates it, i.e. it’s windy as hell and I HAVE to weld something.

You won't need any. Once you do, you are gonna say to yourself " why didn't I switch years ago"

Just remember to switch your polarity.

I love everything about your rack build, except I think the cut out should have been a trucker stripper. But that's just me.

    Carry on.

Motherboard=main control board. Sorry, computer terminology.

Original owner was my sister's father-in-law who bought it new and never used it. I bought it from him. It had <5 hrs run-time usage. Power supply was adequate. Machine was basically brand new with original consumables and appearance wise this was obvious. I sent pics to the help line tech. My disappointment was two fold: disappointment with the premature failure; the telephone help line staffer literally laughed when I said the control board would cost more than an identical brand new unit. Direct quote while laughing: "yeah, doesn't make much sense does it!" He had walked me though some diagnostic steps prior to saying it was terminal.

After that, I took it to a local, reputable electronics repair store. They said even though they could tell which circuit on the board had failed, the thickness of the water proofing made repairs impossible.

@koditten and Wyoming09, I know HF has stepped up their game on welders, etc, so I will check closely before pulling the trigger on Primeweld unit.

Thanks for the feedback gentlemen. If I go with Primeweld, I'll give a review here.

Has someone make this for me back in the day before I had a welder from the chain that snapped on my bike and put a hole in the motor. Today I welded some legs to it.

With plasma cutters, Hypertherm is in the lead. Miller has great warranty support within the warranty period, but so much integrated onto the main power board in a compact size, it’s impossible to repair without replacing the board.
