It was Old Man Tom (@twalchlii1) and I assume he sold his truck before his BP51s could explode.

If you don't draw blood, you're doing it wrong!
Thanks man - there is more helpful info. in the quick replies from y'all here than in all 20 pages of the "BP-51 adjustment" thread! I appreciate all the insight and advice/suggestions.

How is your truck sitting with the 15mm preload? Do you have a ton of weight up front?

That is about the same target # I am shooting for as well (Driver = 17/18mm, Pass. = 12/13mm). I have a full ARB Bumper, Winch, 31M Battery, full skids and some other crap. It is HEAVY up front.

Yup - it was fully loosened. I just couldn't get the springs compressed enough before the whole shock body started rotating. I just have to spend more time and get creative to secure the whole thing before using the compressor on it.

ARB was just in Shelton yesterday at a closed course for BP-51 dealers to experience their suspension, you guys should have gone and shared your experience with them. :boom:

I haven't even attempted it myself. I had one of the first two sets Mule received. The fronts have since been replaced under warranty. They were substantially leaking around the shafts and the driver side was seized at the lca when removal was done.. Rears were fine. I need to go take a good look at all of them and make sure all is still well.

And then a catered lunch for vendors while the shop guys rebuild the shocks between runs?

They are at the top. I’ve been talking to Jon at mule about it. I just need to have some time to go out there and go for a ride in his Tundra.

Damn - I knew they were setting up a "test" course but I had no idea it was in Shelton. Was at the hospital all day yesterday anyhow, but I would like to go check it out.

So does "BP-51" currently stand for "Bad Product, revision 51" at this point? Seems like it.....

I tried with the city of Seattle once. Didn’t have to hand deliver it but was told to kick rocks just the same.

They forked me over to a city contractor who basically told me to fuck off. At that point I decided this wasn’t worth my time any more

Yeah they were at that track up there. It was a one day deal that they didn’t advertise for locals to come out and watch. Closed course I guess.

Maybe in case their shit failed lol

I definitely don't want to bash their company or products; they've had great customer service and I do have alot good experiences with ARB/OME products. It just sucks when an expensive component fails or isn't lasting as long as it should. I really want this replacement set to last a long time; I love the ride and offroad performance. My original OME (Monroe) shocks and coilovers are still going strong after almost 8 years, but the rears definitely lost some compression. I put them on my Dad's Tacoma after I got the BP-51s.

I will say that MOST of the issues I've heard about with the BP-51s are in the PNW region; take that as you will, but there is definitely a higher percentage of failures and issues from this region.

I have been telling ARB for almost as long as I have had them that they feel temperature sensitive. They look at me like I’m crazy.

Oh, they are most-definitely affected by temp and precipitation. Similar reports (from the PNW) of the "cold-weather clunk" and confirmed by ARB.

I've found when it's cold, the bushings squeak like a sum'bitch and the ride is more firm until the oil cycles a bit an warms up (which is to be expected). When it's wet, the squeak goes away but comes back with a vengeance when it dries out.

I seriously think the bushings and internal seals they are using are not rated for the temperature shifts and moisture we have/have had up here; extreme cold, zero precipitation, then tons of rain or weather than can go from 25° to 50°+ overnight. It's quite a different climate from Australia (or Thailand). BUT - I know they did a ton of testing in this region, with their ARB Taco and other rigs - but that was probably after all the R&D in Australia was completed and finalized.
