*I'm not looking to bash homeless, not trying to start any debates. And mods if this is crossing any line, I'll happily take this down.*

My backyard (fenced) backs up to a church and a city building (I think for plumbing or water?).
I have security cameras posted towards this area as there is an accessible gate and I enjoy the added insurance.

BUT I'm curious what my rights are as a homeowner and/or tenant when I have homeless people going between my house and the city building and camping, shooting up (not a generality - I've found needles), or just trashing back there?

Could I ask them to vacate/call authorities? Or am I SOL?

    Thanks

Since it is beyond your fence line, I would imagine the answer is: Not much.

The local utility co or the city may care about their building though...

I mean as stated if they are behind the fence, you cant do much about it's not your property. What you can do is let the Police Department know so they can regularly check the area at night. This could make the homeless want to find a new spot.

As a security stand point I feel ya man, I'd slap a "you're on camera" sign on the backside of your fence

Having this issue myself. Had a large group campout in my neighbor's garage in the alley directly across from my garage.

Honestly just got an extra lock for my gate. It all depends on your local laws. Most likely, unless they are committing a serious crime, police will just tell them to move to a different area and they will camp in a different space.

I have been told to use bright motion sensing lights or lights that turn on at night in problem areas.

I think my neighbor was so fed up that he tore down the structure as it is an ongoing problem.

I'd install a 30" light bar attached to a motion detector, install sprinklers that spray back there, and randomly walk out in the middle of the night and blast an airhorn.

My neighbor and I both have 2 or 3 respective signs up on and around that building!

I might try the motion light!! Good idea - good luck with yours. Our local PD is so understaffed currently & on top of that, the homeless problem here has only gotten worse the last 10 years. (Redding, CA)

I'm thinking motion light might help - i guess my main concern is during the day when I'm gone. A light wouldn't do too much in the middle of the day. Is there such thing as a motion sensor sprinkler?

I just linked one... there are several different models.
It might just provide shower/bath time instead of an annoyance
