Gas milage progress

There are a lot of threads out there on gas milage and I thought I'd post my success.

I got my 01 Tacoma last fall. For the 1st several thousands of miles was all short city driving and I got about 14 - 16 mpg. That was OK cuz I only had to drive 10 miles round trip for work each day. I used Sea foam and added Amsoil motor oil and gear oil. Milage didn't go up, but it shifted smoother and ran smoother.

I got a new job in New Jersey (28 miles each way). I drove like normal (fast) and got about 17 mpg. I slowed down to 65 mph and used cruise control and got 18 mpg. I slowed down to 60 mph and got 20 mpg. Sorry to anyone out there on I-95 headed to or from Jersey from Delaware, that slow Red Taco is me!!

I added the deck plate mod and an AFE dry air filter about 3 tanks ago and have been averaging 22 mpg at 60 mph.

I'm pretty pleased with where I am running now as I only got 25 in my old Forester.

I bought a scangauge and have been working on pushing up mileage - driving 55, cruise control, all synthetics, K&N air filter, etc.

So far it looks like it's averaging about 22 MPG but I know I can do better. I have a sneaking feeling that gas prices are gonna take a jump pretty soon......

Very gay, but everyone has their own opinion.
At that point your truck is no longer a truck, might as well get a small compact car.
Also without it, it may cause a wind swirl when the tailgate is up. Just like what happened on the TV show "mythbusters". When they tested the F-150 truck, and it caused an increase in MPG.
But that was a completely different truck, and may be different with our trucks.

 

nice mpg, im pretty sure someone posted a sweet bumper they mad out of PVC a while back , im pretty sure it got deleted within the hours (please don't make a pvc bumper)
