What happened to this 17 Tacoma??

Good to hear. Scared the crap out of me. I've seen a bunch of 2nd gens with poor paint. Hopefully the paint lasts longer on these 3rd gens.

 

Maybe they're going for a patina look. I've seen wraps like these.

 

Yeah as soon as I saw it I freaked out as well but it seems like it’s specific to BBP trucks built in Baja during a certain time period. I haven’t seen anything official published on it but that’s just what I’ve seen reading the threads.

 

Toyota kinda fucked the dog in terms of quality with the 3rd gen. The cost cutting shows, but most people are in total denial. IMO The 3rd gen won't hit peak quality till 2022 or 2024.

 

Toyota always shits the bed on quality. They are reliable vehicles, not quality vehicles. Ask anyone with the 2nd Gen frame recall, or who bought a 3.0L 4Runner, etc.

 

I wouldn't go that far, it just seems like a generation only gets better as it ages. The first few years buyers are just beta testers for stuff that will fail.

No. A reliable vehicle runs reliably. Quality, in my mind, includes things like paint and creature comforts.

 

So that is not ‘cost cutting that shows’ as you stated. It’s just the normal learning process with a new model.

 

Maaco forgot the clear coat

 

It was specific to just that color.

 

I saw this one a while back. They sprayed clear coat over rust.

Toyota says this is normal for the BBP Tacoma’s... because well it happens on most of them.

 

I always shit a brick when these threads come up. Anyone know of any Texas-made 2018 BBPs that have had this issue? Asking for a friend.

 

None that I have heard of --and I own one!
I do feel that Toyota should "come clean" on this issue and disclose all they know about which trucks and when /where they were made. I think Toyota is purposely being quiet on this matter.
