Considering moving to an access cab, any regrets from you guys?

So IMO I bought the best looking truck configuration at the time that wasn’t a pro. I hate the dclb look and thought the access wouldn’t let me take friends anywhere. Well there’s no leg room in the crew cab anyhow, so I should of just bought an access since 90% of the time my only passenger is my German Shepherd

Furthermore I’ve started to realize I bought a truck that wasn’t as useful for my hobby’s as I’d hoped, primarily taking my sport bike and dirt bike to the track.

I’m wanting to switch to an access cab, TRD Sport, manual in cav blue.

I’m just looking for someone to talk me out of either the access cab, or picking up a 19 over a 2020.

Thoughts?

the only minor regret is less dry storage, but that's why i have a SofTopper.

I want the access but also thought I’d buy looks over actual functionality.

You didnt mention what configuration you have currently... I love my access cab, IMO its the best looking configuration and the 6 ft bed is nice. It's not my daily, I have a sedan that I can take if I need passenger space. Entirely depends on what you want to do with your truck

 

I've been an access cab fan from the start. I could never understand the sedan with an uncovered trunk option.

WTF am I gonna do with a 5' bed?

I had to realize that the hard way, hopefully dealers are willing to work on the 2019 with the “new and improved” 2020s coming out

 

Access cab is great for trails and that extra little bit of storage. I’ll keep a lot of camp gear in the cab to keep room in the bed for sleeping. I would want the extra room of a double if I had a kid or something, but it suites my needs perfectly without being a trail limo.

 

To each his own i guess. I went from a 2007 DCLB to a 2016 DCSB to a 2019 DCLB.

Ill never go back to a short bed and the access cab seems even more impractical than a short bed to me.

Fact is, we cant convince you to do anything. Its your truck, figure out whats important to you in a truck. Looks or functionality?

 

Wish I got an access cab, I’m in the same seat as you are. Figured I’d be happy with the extra room, and I effing hate it. I see access cabs and envy them, nobody goes back there but the dog and he’s not picky. Fuck? I’m not gonna trade my DCLB in but I sure as hell no what I’m getting next time round.

 

access probably has more payload too. correct? I have been having some dilemmas with my 950 payload lately and considering options.

 

The AC looks the best, IMO, but I honestly wish I had still gotten the DCSB. It's nice having practical back seats.

If you care more about the bed, then it is nice having the full size bed, without the truck looking like it's as long as a city bus. So that's another plus for the AC.

 

You could always get a double cab long bed if you dont do much offroading in it. I wouldnt personally, but it's an option. Sometimes I wish I had a double cab for the passenger space like when going on camping trips with multiple friends. I like to take my truck to new places but we always have to take someone elses vehicle that holds everybody. But I got my truck to use as a truck, the bed space is more important to me. Like I said I have a second vehicle so I have no regrets at all

 

Access cab is still 4 doors, plus it opens completely for easy loading unloading your shit

 

went from a DCLB 2015 to an AC2017. I rarely had passengers, except for the dogs, in the back. Would use the wife's car instead. I wanted the long bed. The AC is about 14" shorter. Fits in the garage better and much easier to park. The 5' bed wast an option for me.

 

I love my two-seater access cab. It'll hug you back, like a RX-8.

Just as expected. Each responder here has a different perspective. Bottom like is you have to decide which configuration fits your need.

 

I love my access cab. Prior to purchasing my 2016 used I was looking at double cab long bed TRD sports, in 2nd and 3rd gen, and then double cab short bed 3rd gens after they were released. I didn't really care for the access cab at first because I thought I wouldn't have enough space and boy was I wrong. Double cab would mean too much shit and accessing stuff in the back seat would waste my time even if it's just a few seconds. The suicide doors in the access cab combined with a smaller space makes it easier for me to grab stuff from my seat (I can grab things from behind the passenger seat, almost reach the passenger back cubby, and I can reach behind me and my back cubby), or get out and open the doors quickly instead of going to the end, opening the doors, getting my shit, moving out of the way and closing them. I have two tool boxes that sit under the jump seats that hold various items, and I could pack all of my needs and shelter for at least a month and still not be over the windows. Long bed is great for hauling, I can fit down trails and not worry about angles/space quite as much as I could have as any other configuration. People can still fit back there even if it isn't very comfortable but honestly I just pick my friends wisely. If I have to bring people with me, the taller people go in the front and shorter people go in the back. Otherwise it's just me, my dog and/or a passenger.

 

the only thing that i dislike about the AC is putting something in the backseat if there is a car parked beside me. kind of a pain in the ass as that's where i put my groceries, especially larger things from costco.

edit: also no power sliding rear window kind of sucks
