Hello TW, I just did this mod lately and I like it a lot. Some people might not agree on the way it looks but hey that’s just me, I like the OG style Offroad truck from the ’80s and ’90s that has a Headlamp washer.

The old school LC80 and Mitsubishi Pajero/Montero or even the Land Rover has this headlamp washer as a standard feature, and nowadays if you getting a high-end Lexus LX, GX or LC200 you can still have this feature comes with the truck. So why not put this back to our Tacoma?

Here’s the list of materials I bought. if you find something better then it is great.

Headlamp Headlight Washer Jet Sprayer Nozzle Pair Fit for Land Rover LR2 08-13

New Pair Headlamp Washer Nozzle Clip Fits Land Rover LR2 LR3 LR4 2.0L 3.0L

6mm Windshield Washer Fluid Hose Tube Repair Kit, includes 2 pieces of 59" hose

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/6mm-Windsh...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

OTUAYAUTO Wiper Washer Windshield Check Valve - for Toyota, Scion, Lexus - Replaces OEM #: 85321-28020, Spray Jet Kit (pack of 2)

    TOYOTA OEM Wiper Washer-Windshield-Washer Hose Y-connector 8534814390
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/TOYOTA-OEM...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
    1. Cut the hold with a Step drill bit that fit perfect for the Washer jet fixture, you can choose the one I use, or you can buy something else and maybe more creative.
    2. Remove the two 10 mm bolts that hold the Washer Fluid tank.
    3. Carefully pull tank up until you can see the washer pump at the bottom of the tank. Disconnect the 2 pins connector.
    4. Pull the entire Washer fluid tank up, let it sit on top of the air intake. (I recommend you guys empty the washer fluid tank first, that way it is much easier and less messy with water spread everywhere.
    5. Pull the factory 6 mm washer hose out from the pump.
    6. Cut a 12” 6 mm washer hose you bought from Amazon or eBay, insert that to the water pump outlet.
    7. Connecting the hose with the Toyota Y-connector 8534814390, insert the factory hose to the hood, and insert another precut 6mm hose to another Y connector.
    8. Insert precut 6mm hose to the Y connector, and to the Headlight washer fixture *That Land rover fixture is about 8mm, but it will fit with the 6mm hose.
    9. Insert another 59” (Full length) hose to the driver side of the headlight washer fixture.
    10. Secure all the necessary hardware for your washer jet, in my case, it is the Washer nozzle clip right underneath the bumper skin.
    11. Reconnecting everything back to the washer fluid tank, and the two pins connector.
    12. Fill the tank with water, test it, and here you have a perfect headlight washer for your truck, and now get ready for mud!

(Note) Since the washer fluid tank pump is always open, it is required to have a check valve install for the hose below the water level, otherwise, it will empty the tank overnight.

No wonder I saw an extra connector on the washer tank hardness! Now that make perfect sense! Thanks for the suggestion!

    Nicely done! That is sharp.

Headlight washers are required by law on all vehicles equipped with HIDs, as dirt on the lens causes scatter and glare from the high intensity light source.

I think it is for ECE, Not US DOT though.

    Cool mod!

No they are not. Any headlight regardless of bulb type that’s over 2000 lumens (on low beam only) is required to have them for ECE approval. North American DOT approval has no such mandate of washers under any circumstances.

gotcha the one linked says it comes from China. Did you order it from another spot?

Also for the check valve its open but it runs to each washer did you have issues with it leaking? Curious how they manage that on other vehicles. I assume you leave it off unless you need it.

I think they have multiple shippers in US, just like Amazon you know. But that's the link I ordered the washer.

Yes, you are correct, that's the reason why I'm using two Y connector, one is the Y splitter, and the other is the one-way check valve Y connector to prevent leakage.

Can you show a picture of how it looks from behind/underneath where the clips hold the nozzles?
