I’ve Drive a 1931 Ford pickup. 5 minutes to install the spare carb on I carry under the seat. 15 minutes to change the points and retime it. I can pull the head pan and pistons with engine in the truck and reassemble in several hours. It’s noisy, rattles, rough riding and tops out at 50 mph. No heater or AC. After a 200 mile drive in it I am ready for my 2018 with all the technology.

For service, under warranty, you can always go to any Toyota dealership. I know many people that travel to buy their trucks at a great price and never return to the dealership they purchased their truck from. There is no problem with that. Your servicing dealer will always be happy to have you (they get money from Toyota corporate).

I think the pro sensor went in with the pro grill originally because it is mounted in a slightly different location than the OR sensor. I asked if we could
just use the OR sensor instead but he was sure that was going to be the same problem, with the truck's computer thinking there is a malfunction when it
can't be calibrated because it's in the wrong spot corresponding to the pro grill. OR sensor will work with OR stock grill of course, but I'm happy with my
PRO grill after it worked fine for like 15 months until this shit happened because of the recall.

I would have them get a OffRoad/Sport radar sensor off the lot & try it out. I'm confident your problems will go away.

I have a Pro grille with the original Sport sensor & a piece of Kydex plastic in front of the sensor to protect it. I don't have the shinny garnish cover just the 2016/2017 grille insert & I have tested thoroughly that everything is functioning properly.

Dealership service depts are not paid to think outside the box. They are basically told what to do. It sounds like they are willing to work with you so see if they will atleast try to pull a sensor off the lot. If everything works have them get you one. For $700 out of your pocket I think it's the least they could do to make things right & driveable.

    Hope that works

Good to Know, I have been looking for a new dealer to service my 2018. Mine hassled me about the leather interior in my off road, trying to tell me they don't cover aftermarket leather. I would be on the hook for the rattling headrest or take it back to where the leather was installed..

Stuff hit the fan. Don't recommend the service department south of the I5/I205 interchange in the Portland Metro.

I kept my stock grill insert when I installed the trex billet. I think I will spend 30 minutes and swap it back to stock and than tell them about the warped surround.

... and here I was getting envious of folks with radar adaptive cruise control. You know what? I'll just keep using one finger and my prefrontal cortex and be extra thankful I have a 2017

2017.....the finest year of the Tacoma. Just enough of the model-launch growing pains fixed, without the new growing pains of the TSS.

Can there ever be a thread about TSS without the luddites coming out and saying how glad they are that they bought a 2017?

With that warning on, when it’s time for a smog test 5 years from now you will have a problem.

    Nope
I actively search for them daily

Also, I believe "luddites" are traditionally against ALL forms of technological innovation, not just poorly implemented ones

Indeed. This is a private company telling their customers to bend over and take it. Capitalism at its best.

Had my 10k service the other day and the dealer said they could not perform the radar sensor re calibration because I had a Pro grill. Oh well. The TSS works fine and never gives me errors.

This is the cellphone age and people are staring at their phones all the time while driving. These systems are essential IMO.

That aside, this is really about adaptive cruise control. Adaptive cruise is the shit and I can't imagine living without it now that I have it. I can fill up my gas tank, get on the expressway and drive 300 plus miles without ever having to touch the throttle or brake. This sensor is all about adaptive cruise for me.

I think many of us can vouch for the off road sensor working just fine with the pro grill. I wonder if that sensor change isn't part of your problem.

Feeling really late to the party, but what is the recall and how do I find out if it applies to my truck?
(2019 DCLB TRD OR, had it since ~Feb.)

Get the Toyota owners app and you can see if it affects your vehicle. Go to the service section and choose “Safety Recall”.
