I plan on removing/swapping to stock my upgrades (not many) if I get into a different one, my states usage is 10 cents/mile, up to 10% of the purchase price, whichever is less. Well I wish you luck on getting it resolved!

Thank you. You as well. Yes, we can swap back in the original parts in WA state too. But I sold off a lot of them, so that's what it is. We have no limit on usage here, you must live in CA or somewhere like that. I heard their lemon laws are very consumer friendly.

You can negotiate on aftermarket stuff. Also, don't forget getting reimbursed for your car insurance for the duration you didn't have your car. Get reimbursed for all title and licensing eacch year. WA pamphlet is pretty good at spelling it all out. We're also lucky that WA doesn't require a manufacturer ran arbitration process, it's state run. Also can kindly remind them that our state law required the title to be branded, might be in their best interest to negotiate. Though I'd feel bad knowingly lettung them resell it to someone else. But my conscience does have a cost...

Oil leak not covered under powertrain warranty. Solution, drain oil. Put plug back in. Start engine. Leave it running until it quits. Put drained oil back in. Have it towed to dealer. New engine covered under powertrain warranty.

This is good info. I did not know that; thank you. I have something like 4k in aftermarket stuff on it. I haven't completely gone through all the paperwork yet as I have a raging cold, but I am meeting with a lemon law attorney tomorrow morning to go over my case.

This is the sort of thing that sounds tempting, to teach the turds a lesson, but these new engines will pretty much store all info, like a low oil code. They will see that and poof goes your warranty fyi.

Low oil code my A$$. Let them prove it. If the engine is blown then the oil code will just prove something is wrong that caused it. Oil is in engine. Engine is blown. New engine. Read my avatar. I have had my dealing with them. I will not lose to one of them. NEVER!

Well I sympathize with you, believe me, I think dealer employees are mostly scum, but I also know that running the engine with low oil will likely throw a CEL in addition to storing a low engine oil code.

On a side note... I purchased a new ‘15 Subaru Forester from a local dealer. After about a month I noticed unusual fading on an unpainted black bumper. Upon further inspection it looked as if someone backed into something and spray painted the bumper black to cover it up. There was also over spray on the factory paint near the bumper. I believe after I did not notice this until after several washed wore the sheen of the spray paint down.

I immediately drove to the dealer and showed the bumper to the dealer GM. He was very apologetic and immediately offered to order a new bumper and have it painted to match my vehicle.

In the meantime I had come to find out that a young man in the back that prepares the vehicles for delivery found the scuff on the bumper, informed the assistant manager, and was told to "touch it up" instead of informing me to purchase another vehicle on the lot.

When I went to pick-up my vehicle after they had ordered a new bumper and painted it, it was obvious that they had done a poor job and the paint lines (painted too high) did not match the stock paint lines. The GM offered to purchase another bumper and paint it. Although he was offering to "fix" the problem I was a bit upset that I purchased a new vehicle only to fond out it wasn't without perfection. I then suggested that they switch my vehicle out for a new one and they agreed, but went a step further and upgraded me to a '16 which had been released in the month since i purchased my '15. The only money I was out was the first months payment I had already made on the '15. The dealer made it right and then some without any effort on my part.

While this was going on I called Subaru of America to inform them of the situation and their response was "You should have carefully checked the vehicle out before purchase for any imperfections as same damage may occur in transit or when offloading the vehicle at the dealer." The rep didn't seem to understand or care much that the spray paint was applied after I had agreed to purchase the vehicle, was taken to the service shop for delivery preparation, and the next time I would see the vehicle with the added spray paint was after the purchase had taken place. She eventually offered me a $300 credit for parts and/or service.

In my case it was the dealer who had gone out of their way to make it right and the manufacturer who could have cared less.

My dealers been fairly good, I get the advisor/manager/district rep structure so the janky stuff is small potatoes for me at the point. The last few weeks we’ve came to terms this vehicle just has stuff poppin off left and right. Talked with the service mgr tonight and it was good, he’ll provide all the records and be asked about it by the review inquiry. My hope is that they go a step above and give the opinion that it should be replaced. I suspect he was already aware it was submitted into Toyota’s review program.

If Toyota deniers the request he’s got a list of items to fix and we’ll schedule that then. Hopefully that carries some weight for him and the dealership to encourage a replacement, we’ll see what happens.

Your attitude about your situation is commendable. I hope I could say that I would handle it as well as you and try not to worry or get overly excited until need be. I like your, “We will cross that bridge when/if we get to it.” attitude!

It certainly hasn’t been easy! A lot of stress, then once it started leaning that way it was a lot of research and then just biting the bullet and going in to talk with the GM and the owner, and the service manager, for 3 heavy conversations. Most definitely a challenge to separate what they’re saying and what people really mean. Dodging the language that comes at you to pressure to trade it, pressure that you’re going against a big corporate company, pressure that it’s not that bad. High anxiety can really distract your observation skills. The amount of problems and that its a fact of life that these things happen in manufacturing products really reinforce that it’s worth it and that it’s necessary.

It’s a long enough road that you kind of need to keep your options open and outlook flexible (after each conversation it’s like “what really just happened there?”), do some reflecting after each interaction and make good notes (notes after phone calls too) and have a real clean and structured documentation system. Up to this point I’ve got notes docs, designed up a timeline, every bit of paperwork scanned, into folders, photos, videos, timeline and service records all linked in off the main notes sheet. I can share anywhere from one to all files with anyone via email with view only privileges, I can pull up any of it on my phone too and show photos, videos, look at my own notes when I’ve had to go in for talks.

At the end of the day "stuff" like a truck or any possession is just unimportant. Family, friends, faith (in something) is all you truly ever have. I am at the age where mortality is starting to set in. In the past stuff like you are going through would bother me. Now? Not at all. Even if I lose money, it's just not worth worrying about. Good luck man and keep it all in perspective, which means, in the greater scheme of things this is not even a speed bump on the road of life.

Lol. Toyota has some heavy hitters in their engineering department. The ones I have worked with are damn good.

I actually considered that. But some of this stuff, like the bushwacker fenders or the rekgen flaps, are going to basically be impossible to return to OEM. I'm pretty sure the OEM flares were *glued* on, if I remember right.
