LOL! I had an FZJ80 with an Orion transfer case and manual hubs... At that time, there were no low gears for the AWD t-case, so I swapped in the Orion. The Aisin hubs that went along with the part time system also helped keep the Longfield CVs from wearing out on the street.

    too many to list

Yup, thats why I wanted to do mine. Plus I always had to drive 3 hours or so if I wanted to go crawlin so it woulda helped a little bit. My plan for my 80 was the part time swap and the marlin crawler gears since I would have to take apart the t case anyways. Never got around to it and sold my 80 for a price I couldnt refuse.

I understand that you probably know more than I do about these AWD Systems -- who cares.? I don't! BTW you are assuming we drive a Forester -- wrong - we drive a 15 Outback. I just know it is the single most surefooted system we have ever owned or driven and we have driven quite a few in our 70+ years of life. and NO we don't go "rock crawlin. Nuff said!

Subaru’s AWD system isn’t that great anymore compared to competitors. Their garbage CVTs are now the limiting factor.

Yup. A wrx, an sti, a forester, and multiple outbacks.
The CVT cut power on the 3.6r regularly, on the same icy hills my 4EAT Subarus had no trouble tackling with less power and torque. The conventional autos allowed for wheel spin if it arose in the situation. The CVT simply cuts power, essentially stalling out the vehicle, preventing the AWD system from doing what it does best. Oh and when the CVT does go out like it did in mine, it costs $8000 to replace. Old proven Jatco 4EAT? Maybe $2000 tops, after 200k miles, and not 64k

    What hasn't been modified?
No? It’s the stock selector switch from the 4runner that I got the rest of my parts for the conversion.
My truck is an 06 so it doesn’t have many fancy electronics. And the abs sucks!

    YES.
I was going to post something like this until I saw your post. My last 3 Jeeps had Full time 4x4, Part time 4x4, and 4low (and 1 also even had a 4x2 mode). I never fully understood why this can't be applied to a pickup?
On mixed condition roads, full time 4x4 trumps having to pick between 4x2 or part time 4x4.

Having said that, I won't go back to the Jeeps, while the drivetrain was solid, pretty much everything else was a PITA ;)

After mine left me high dry in the middle of Wyoming in winter, I don't think I will ever go back either!

Geez. There's like a half dozen correct posts and about 84 wrong posts in this thread! This should be a lesson... people don't know much yet act like experts...
My favorite is the guy who said a FT 4WD is same as Audi Quattro or Subaru lol.

Dude, I am a total idiot. I think I was up late that night, drinking, scouring the picture for what people were talking about, and, well...I was referring to the fan switch, yep, over to the right of the stock selector. If you're gonna drink an TW, don't drink and TW and post trying to sound intelligent. Oops!

My ‘15 Silverado LTZ had the “4x4 auto” mode and it was perfect for winter days when some snow was still drifting onto the roads or leftover.
