Real world mpg

around 17-18

 

Try using fuelly.com or a similar site/app to track your tanks. It’ll give you an accurate measurement, and you can compare your truck’s fuel economy to thousands of like vehicles. My CPU reads about 1 mpg higher than I actually get when I fill up.

 

I got 19.5 pretty much every tank combined driving with stick tires..... with the 255/85 mastercratfs its dropped to about 17..... manual trans with a camper top... I drive average

 

After 3 years, 40 mile daily commute and 41k miles on the truck averaging 55-70 mph, I average 20 mpgs per tank.

I'm also a +1 tire size with a loaded tool box and sliders.

 

I don't think anyone is really 'offended', just a bit tired around the same top 10 topics.

19.5-20 running 265/70/17s slightly bigger that stock.

 

Sounds about right from what you describe. When they test vehicles for mpg ratings, they don't drive at 75 mph speeds.

I'm lifted on E rated 33's and I see 20 on the highway at 65 mph.

 

Stock tires, stock suspension, constantly use TSS @ 72/73, SoCal, 60% freeway, 30% 2 lane back roads @ 55, and 10% streets, NO airdam...

20.3 avg.

 

I was getting 14.5-15 with topper with thule load bars, 265/70/17 E rated KO2's, pro wheels, and OEM room rack. I took off the OEM roof rack, predator steps and Thule bars replaced with a prinsu rack on the cab and topper and now i'm getting 16.5-17.

Not sure what was causing the drop but I've averaging about 2 mpg better after the changes. If i had to guess the wind resistance of the OEM roof rack and square thule bars.

I'd say 80% of my driving is 35-55mph city driving and the rest about 75mph highway.

 

Agree with others that driving at 75mph with a Taco will suck gas although I am in the camp the truck should get better mpg but just doesn’t. Hell my cobra with a 408 gets 20mpg on highway cruising at 80mph.

 

Is your engine “broke in” yet (after 1500 miles, I got another 2 MPG average)... 2018 stock Limited, easy 24 MPG at 65, 22 MPG at 75 MPH, and goes down to 20 MPH with an 85 MPH average. With headwind, you drink more fuel quickly. I’ve only done one real long distance round trip, Albuquerque to Denver... high terrain (over 5000 feet in both cities) with lots of altitude changes (through a 7000 foot pass). Average highway speed was 75-78 MPH, recorded actual mileage of 22.3 on calm day to Denver and 18.7 on windy day (into wind) for return.

Most annoying issue was transmission shifting in/out of overdrive gears in the hilly areas, but that’s what it is supposed to do. With headwind, the transmission would “hang” in 4th gear on the flat after climbing a hill... had to tap the gas (while in cruise control) to make the transmission up shift back into OD. Tacoma isn’t a long distance highway vehicle... however it does perform well in ABQ at local interstate speeds.

 

Tacoma MPG is pretty horrid once you start adding anything. Even stock i never got over 19 on a good day. There are a lot of environment variables to consider as well that will swing it 1-2 mpg. Also, its the internet and people tend to embellish.

 

The highest my new Tacoma has achieved in the 3 weeks since I picked it up is 18.0 MPG. Barely enough to meet the low-end of the advertised numbers. Most of the time it’s hovered between 14 and 17 MPG. I’ve been driving like Miss Daisy was in the back, too.

It is getting 265/70-17 ATs next week. This ain’t looking good...

 

18-20, stock tires set at 35psi, lots of hills, but 95% freeway driving

 

I am always trying to adjust my driving habits to get the best possible mileage out of mine, I’m really happy with what I’m getting 19-24 ish in the V6. It’s turned into a game almost whenever I’m driving now.

 

Average mid to upper 23's. V6, 4wd, all stock

 

18-19 mpg combined for the v6 seems to be common for most.

Might be able to extract 2-3 mpg in pure highway driving, but that is a "best case" scenario.

If you're getting anything in the ballpark of 18-19 mpg, you're doing alright.

 

Mine averages from 0.1 to 0.3 higher.

 

On full tanks of gas? Or are you just looking at the mpg readout on the dash?
