Well TW, had a bit of a jolt this morning.

Rear-ended while stopped at a traffic light on my way to work. The guy who hit me (in a JEEP, no less) claimed his foot slipped off the brake, but he was probably distracted by his phone. The accident was reported and filed with local PD and all information/photos collected. He was issued a traffic citation of $137 for failing to stop; no citation issued to me. No one injured, no air bags deployed, no damage to taillights (that I can tell), and tailgate is functional. I'll be getting a quote on the cost of a replacement from a local shop I trust.

That being said, I've been looking into replacing my rear plastic bumper regardless, as it is a key component on the war I'm waging against chrome. So, maybe this was fate! Full metal replacement - aluminum preferred for weight savings and rust prevention. For those of you with metal rear bumpers (Mobtown, CBI, Dissent, etc.), or those looking into them yourselves, any suggestions are welcome!

A standard replacement plate bumper is way more stout than the factory......Unless you plan to go High Clearance.....

Id hold off on saying no injuries. Many times I've been in a auto or motorcycle accident and the adrenaline, anger, and concern for my vehicle would mask any injuries I had for a few days. In a day or two, if you begin to feel sore be sure to get checked out.

As for the rear bumper, aluminum bumpers are difficult to find for the rear in my experience. All pro made some nice ones for the second gen

I should say no obvious injuries, but I'm monitoring for today and through the weekend. Nonetheless good advice!

Same for me, regarding aluminum. I'm not opposed to steel, but it's my preference anyway - wondering if anyone here would have suggestions otherwise.

I've always found the aluminum front and steel rear a better option. The rear gets dragged the most over rocks etc. Steel will hold up to the abuse better and in the event this happens again, the steel will hold up better. Unless you don't take your OR off road. I have also found that people that purchase a standard steel bumper have all the regerts and end up with a high clearance.

It's hard to tell, but haven't got the mud off from a week-long trip offroad last week - so yes, my truck does see the roads less traveled.

Good points on both here - I would look for a hidden hitch option for clearance, and the note about steel in the rear is important. Definitely not opposed to high clearance, outside of cutting my truck.

My .02 get the high clearance and steel. Your call about a swingout. They have their pros and cons. If you're worried about rust, I know that MobTown has great powder and should hold up really well.

    Good luck!

    My pig for attention :D

    Absolutely gorgeous, man!

High clearance is sexy - I'd just have to get over the mental aspect of cutting my truck.

Good choice. Eric makes quality stuff. Both my Pelfreys were available locally so no wait time.

I need to maintain the towing capacity, so didn't want to mess with the hitch setup at all. But yeah, a high-clearance bumper would definitely be awesome if I never had to tow anything.

Well, a few of the aftermarket bumpers have hidden hitches and so forth. Naturally they don't rate them for towing, but you can still tow. Factory tow setup is nice too, but some day I'll replace the bumper with some steel.

Not sure about cutting for the high clearance though!
